A woman’s “world was turned upside down” after she suddenly had a seizure which led to a terrifying diagnosis.

Shanique Hallgren, 30, who lives in Canada, was “having the time of her life” before the nightmare unfolded. She had even made plans to travel to Mexico for a wedding. But on February 5, she suffered from a seizure.

According to her mother, Tracey Monahan, the discovery led to doctors finding a tumour in the brain. “At that stage they didn’t know whether it was benign or cancerous – when they found that out in an emergency, they were obviously extremely shocked and upset,” she said.

The scared mother, flew from Shanique’s home country, Melbourne, Australia, to be by her daughter’s side in Canada. Initially, doctors suspected that Shanique might have had a low-grade glioma. However, after she was taken into surgery, she was diagnosed with stage 3 high-grade glioma, which is a violent form of brain cancer. Tracey said that her daughter displayed subtle signs months before her seizure.

The 30-year-old had difficulty raising her right foot and even went to a physiotherapist for her “weak ankles”. Speaking about the potential symptoms, her mum told News AU: “In hindsight, we now know that not being about to lift her right foot without having an injury – that was the tumour that was pressing on the left frontal lobe in her brain, and the left frontal lobe connects to motor ability in the right side of her body.”

She went on to say that her daughter is unable to stand on her own due to the deliberating side effects. “They say she will have a shortened life,” Tracey added. Her daughter has to undergo radiation treatment and chemotherapy. She has since endured six seizures. Due to her decline in health, Shanique’s family would like to fly her back to Melbourne so she can be surrounded by a bigger support system.

Her partner James Canavan has to be by her side 24/7, which means he cannot work while medical costs continue to build up. Shanique originally had tickets booked to return to Australia on February 28. “It was less than 24 hours before that flight that she had another major seizure where she was hospitalised and was in the hospital for eight days,” said Tracey.

The only way she will be able to fly back to Melbourne is if she took a medical evacuation flight.“To do that privately cost $280,000 (£141,473), which is just unfathomable,” her mum added. A GoFundMe has since been launched. To donate visit here.
