There’s some good news if you have a Sky Q box in your living room with a long overdue update arriving this month.

If you are a loyal user of Sky Q, you may have felt a little neglected. Over the past few years, it seems all the attention has been placed on newer devices such as Sky Stream and Sky Glass, which both use the internet to beam content to the big screen rather than an over-the-air signal.

Although Sky Q – which needs an old-fashioned dish to work – remains hugely popular, it’s not received the endless updates and new features that seem to pushed out to its more modern siblings on a regular basis.

Luckily, that is changing. Channel 5 has confirmed – via an update – that Sky Q is getting a blockbuster boost later this month. Yes, Q boxes are finally getting full access to the My 5 app, which will offer homes that use this device the chance to catch up on hours of on-demand content.

My 5 has been available on Sky Glass and Sky Stream for a while, but Q users will now have access to it as well.

It’s worth noting that these older gadgets can currently access Channel 5 shows that aren’t being broadcast live but only via the general on-demand section of the Sky homepage.

The latest move comes ahead of Channel 5’s rebrand, giving the terrestrial service and app a more simplified ‘5’ branding.

Explaining more, Kiaran Saunders, VP Distribution at Paramount UK, said: “Our expanded distribution across Sky Q marks an important milestone in My5’s ongoing growth, enabling us to reach more homes than ever before.

“With the upcoming refresh to 5, we’re thrilled to deliver an even more engaging, streamlined and richer viewing experience for all of our audiences.”

This isn’t the only update coming from Sky, with the company confirming that it’s also revamping its NOW streaming service later this month as well with users getting a new look and improved features.
