Zara Tindall shares three children with husband Mike – Mia, Lena and little Lucas – and the trio stole the show when she was interviewed at the Badminton Horse Trials
Zara Tindall had quite the fan base when she competed in the Badminton Horse Trials last week.
She was cheered on by her husband Mike Tindall and their three children, Mia, ten, Lena, five, and three-year-old Lucas during the five-day event.
Immediately after stepping down from her horse, Class Affair, Zara was interviewed about her performance – and was praised by fans for her down-to-earth approach.
In a video posted on the official Badminton Horse Trials Instagram page, Zara was joined by all three of her children as she spoke to the interviewer, with little Lucas balanced on her hip.
The toddler, dressed in a blue polo shirt, shorts and a Spiderman cap, playfully fiddled with the strap of his mother’s helmet as she spoke, while Lena shyly stood close to her mum, wearing a summer dress and a cap, as Zara stroked her ponytail. Their big sister Mia, meanwhile, joined them mid-way through.
“Royalty, huge competition, toddler on hip, other kids in tow. What a great example she is,” one person praised, while a second echoed: “Huge respect for Zara – just like her amazing Mum!! So down to earth and humble. Congratulations Zara.”
A third wrote: “Love that woman she is so grounded. Bravo!” And a fourth shared: “Any woman who gets back into high level riding after having a baby (or 2+) deserves a medal!!”
In 2023, Zara appeared on her husband’s YouTube series called ‘Mike Drop’ in collaboration with the Magic Millions horse-racing event in Australia.
She explained she found it difficult returning to riding after having her children, Mia, Lena, and Lucas, saying: “I found it hard getting myself back to it. Mentally, you feel guilty as a mother leaving your child to go and do something else.”
She continued: “I had to ring you every day to make sure you were doing the right thing. You do feel guilty. I felt guilty all the time. Even just going to go and ride. I just thought, that’s an aspect of my life now.”
Mike replied: “Seven year period with kids, your riding has been on and off, we lost a baby along the way, you’d had to stop riding before that and you’d missed another chunk of time. Did you feel during that time, you gave it everything you wanted to give it?”
Zara responded: “There’s probably times I would look back on and shouldn’t have gone to certain places but I think – I was lucky, I’d had tournaments and been to an Olympics and been to World Championship and won.
“The stuff I missed – was down to another great chapter in my life and I’m very lucky that I could run them alongside each other.”
She concluded: “I’m lucky that our sport I could do both and still ride at the top. It’s been a massive drive for me and I hope it makes me a better mother.”
