Fans are speculating that Zendaya will finally win her first-ever Oscar award after being tipped to play the iconic 1960s music icon Ronnie Spector in an upcoming biopic
Stars like Rami Malek, Renée Zellweger and most recently Timothee Chalamet have proved that the best way to win awards is by starring in a biopic. Now, fans are predicting the same fate for Zendaya who has been confirmed to star in a biographical drama about Ronnie Spector.
Zendaya will portray the late ‘60s music icon in the upcoming A24 production Be My Baby, which will focus on the life of the former Ronettes singer. Zendaya, who will also serve as a producer, was first attached to the project in 2020 and was hand-picked by Ronnie Spector for the role before her passing in 2022.
According to fans, this biopic will finally be enough to win Zendaya her first-ever Oscar. After the official announcement, fans flooded X with encouragement for the actress.
“Zendaya your Oscar is coming” posted one fan. Another writes: “She about to work her a– off. Oscar with her name on it in the future.” One fan even says this is a sign of Zendaya’s propulsion into coveted EGOT-status (someone who has won Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards): “This could be Zendaya’s Oscar I’m saying it right now. If she is able to pull this off… we’re getting closer to Zendaya EGOT.”
Be My Baby already has all the makings of an Oscar’s darling. In addition to an A-list lead, the film will be directed by Oscar-winning screenwriter behind Moonlight, Barry Jenkins.
The film will be adapted from the singer’s 1990 memoir: “Be My Baby: How I Survived Mascara, Miniskirts, and Madness, Or, My Life as a Fabulous Ronette”. Instead of focusing on the full life of the Ronnie Spector (born Veronica Bennett), the film will hone in on her life with her abusive former-husband and infamous producer Phil Spector.
To date, Zendaya has not been able to snag an Oscar nomination herself, despite being tied to nominated projects like Dune: Part Two. Many felt the actress was snubbed for a Best Actress nomination for leading role in the heady tennis drama, Challengers.
The actress was notably absent for this year’s Academy Award ceremony, despite Dune: Part Two being nominated, but she has been rallying with back-to-back projects. In addition to starring alongside Robert Pattinson in The Drama, she is also gearing up for production of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey alongside her fiancée Tom Holland.

Zendaya also has her hands full now that filming of HBO Max’s third season of Euphoria has begun filming. The actress will be reprising her role as Rue Bennet, as well as continuing on as executive producer.
Zendaya’s Euphoria role has been a major win for the actress, certainly propelling her into the stratosphere of A-list stardom. Her contribution to the project has seen her become the youngest Black actress to earn $1million dollars per episode.

In 2020, her performance in the hit drama also saw her become the youngest-ever recipient of the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. In 2022, Zendaya secured the award again at the 2022 Primetime Emmy Awards, becoming the youngest two-time acting winner.
Sadly for fans, the third season of Euphoria is set to be the final season. Though it seems that may be best for Zendaya who is gearing up for a jampacked filming year.
