With energy bills on the rise, temperatures reaching their lowest this winter and everyone looking for ways to cut costs, head of shopping Zoe has found an affordable solution to help dry clothes in the cold

By now we’ve all heard that energy bills are going up by around £150 for an average household – and bills in total will be 65 per cent higher than they were four years ago. Because of this, we’re all looking for ways to save money on gas and electricity.

Our head of shopping Zoe says she thinks she’s found a solution to wet clothes that never seem to dry in un-heated homes, and you can pick it up from Amazon. HomeTronix’s 20 Bars Winged Electric Heated Clothes Airer Dryer, £44.99, is pulling in glowing reviews from shoppers and our shopping experts alike thanks to its quick drying abilities.

This heated airer is the perfect solution for drying clothes efficiently, especially when space is limited. With 20 heated tubes, it speeds up the drying process while being gentle on your clothes—much kinder than a tumble dryer. Its fold-out wings give extra space for larger loads, and when not in use, it’s easy to fold away out of sight.

Designed to be cost-effective, this airer consumes minimal energy, running for just pennies an hour. Plus, it can hold up to 10kg of laundry at a time.

Zoe says

Probably my least favourite thing about winter (and there are many to choose from) is how difficult it is to dry clothes. Like many people, my flat doesn’t have a tumble dryer, so I’ve only got the option of using a clothes rack to dry laundry loads. This is all well and good in summer when the heat helps the fabrics to dry, but in autumn/winter, I can leave loads out for days and they still will feel damp.

My solution? This Amazon heated clothes dryer. I’m not being dramatic when I say it’s a life-changer– I genuinely don’t know what I’d do without it. It’s big enough to hang a full load of my washing and the rods heat up fast to dry even thicker fabrics like towels. My top tip to really speed up the drying time is to pick up a cover for the rack, like this one for £8.99. Pop it on top once you’ve hung all your washing and it’ll keep everything covered in the warm environment. I promise, your clothes will dry in a matter of hours instead of days.

Amazon shoppers say

One pens: “Great deal as it dries our washing and saves money on electricity”.

A second adds: “This is a game changer. I live in a basement flat so drying clothes is very tricky. There’s a decent amount of space and most of it drys within a few hours. It also helps heat up the room. It folds down, so easy to store. If you want stuff dried really quickly then move them. About every half hour as obviously the part on the bar will heat /dry quicker we’ve gone from clothes taking a few days to dry and being left all over the place, to being dry the same day.”

“Amazing value for a great product, using it daily very fast to dry and easy to use. I don’t have any cover as recommended but don’t need it,” says a third.

A fourth adds a different viewpoint: “It heats up and dry clothes but does not have plenty of space for full loads. Airer will be suffice for 10 clothes max and rods heat up well enough to dry clothes if they are not too wet. But this product to be handled very carefully as the build is not robust and chances are high to break if not go easy with it. There should have been clips to hold the wings so they wouldn’t flap when try folding the product. Overall good for intended use.”
