Cleaning your carpet can be an expensive business, but it doesn’t have to break the bank. By using a simple household hack, it’s possible to do it for as little as 5p.

The experts at Shark said: “Start by making a simple cleaning solution by mixing two teaspoons of washing-up liquid into half a litre of cool water.”

If you’re not sure about using the cleaning solution on your carpet, test it out on a small or inconspicuous area first to check it won’t cause any damage.

This solution is affordable and can be used to tackle a variety of stains, including mud and spills, without the need for expensive carpet cleaners.

The experts added: “Once you have your solution, apply it carefully to the stain using a soft-bristled brush, like an old toothbrush. Dab the solution from the edges of the stain inward to prevent spreading, and blot the area with a kitchen roll or a microfiber cloth.

“This process effectively removes dirt and grime for minimal cost—far cheaper than buying specialized cleaning products. After the area is dry, a quick vacuum will restore the carpet’s appearance, leaving your home clean for only a few pennies.”
