Adam Brody had fans in tears as he paid an emotional tribute to wife Leighton Meeston at the Critics Choice Awards, weeks after losing their home in the LA wildfires
Actor Adam Brody had the audience and fans at home in tears as he delivered a touching tribute to wife Leighton Meester as he won his first Critics Choice Award last night.
The 45-year-old actor, who shot to fame in The O.C. in the Noughties, took home the Best Actor in a Comedy Series gong for his role as ‘hot rabbi’ Noah in Netflix series Nobody Wants This. Though his award is a major win for the star, it comes weeks after Adam and Gossip Girl legend Leighton, 38, tragically lost their home in the LA wildfires.
Kissing his wife as he headed to the stage, he went on to express his ‘love’ for his ‘darling wife’ in a heartfelt speech. Starting by thanking the Critics Choice Awards, he praised his co-star Kristin Bell for ‘believing in him’, as well as the rest of the cast and crew, as he revealed the second series of Nobody Wants This will kick off ‘in a few weeks’.
He said: “Thank you to our lovely, lovely, lovely cast and crew. We had the pleasure, the immense pleasure filming this in Los Angeles. Can’t wait to run it back with you guys in a few weeks.
“Thank you to Erin Foster [the show’s creator]. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for your incredible, unique voice. Thank you for making me part of your story.” Thanking co-star Kristin, who plays his love interest on the show, he continued: “Thank you for your talent. Thank you for your kindness. Thank you for your belief in me. This is a Hanukkah present for you,” he joked, while gesturing to his trophy.
Adam then fought back tears as he paid an emotional tribute to his wife of 11 years Leighton, who he shares nine-year-old daughter Arlo with and a three-year-old son, whose name has never been publicly revealed.
Struggling to hold back tears herself, he told his wife who sat in the audience: “My darling, darling wife. Thank you. Thank you for sharing this life with me and this journey with me. Thank you for our family. Love you with all my heart. Thank you so much.”
The awards ceremony, which had already been delayed twice due to the LA wildfires, was the first time the couple had been pictured at an event since losing their beloved family home. Leighton looked amazing in a shimmering golden gown with a corset bodice, while Adam looked dapper in a black tuxedo and white shirt, though he kept it slightly casual and didn’t add a tie.
It was revealed in January that Leighton and Adam’s home was one of the many destroyed in the fires. They purchased the five bedroom, six bathroom home for $6.5million in 2019 and lived there with their two children. Other celebs who lost homes in the tragedy include Sir Anthony Hopkins, Mel Gibson, Jeff Bridges, Billy Crystal, Paris Hilton, Anna Farris and Spencer and Heidi Pratt.
