Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater weren’t hiding their love inside the Critics Choice Awards ceremony despite host Chelsea Handler roasting their relationship during her monologue
Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater weren’t hiding their love for one another at the Critics Choice Awards, despite Chelsea Handler roasting their relationship.
Kicking off with a hilarious monologue, the 49-year-old comic began: “It’s nice to see some of our most beloved child stars grown up and thriving. Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande are all nominated. Now Ariana has found love with a munchkin,” referencing Slater’s munchkin character Boq in the Wicked movie.
The joke may not have landed as well as Chelsea would have liked however, only receiving a lukewarm response from the audience. Perhaps, from the awkwardness of the two being sat in the room together.
The couple decided to walk the red carpet separately but opted to sit side by side inside the ceremony. Ariana wore a stunning nude floral appliqué gown with a mesh corset and an eye-catching cage-style skirt for the occasion. She styled her hair in a slick bun and wore a pair of glittering silver earrings.
Meanwhile, Ethan looked dapper in a dark grey, double breasted suit with black velvet lapels, black buttons and black velvet detailing on the pockets.
Inside, the pair were seen getting cosy as Ariana rested her hand on Ethan’s leg at one point, as she leant in to whisper. They were seen getting close all night, and in high spirits despite the jab, as they were spotted giggling together during the show.
Ariana and Ethan have been linked since Summer 2023 after meeting on the set of the Wicked movie. Despite initially keeping their relationship on the low, this year, the stars have upped the PDA. Earlier this year, the couple made a joint appearance at the National Board of Review Gala in New York City where they were photographed dancing and embracing.
Although they didn’t walk the carpet together at the Critics Choice, they did at the Gala, alongside the rest of their Wicked co-stars. Shortly after, Ethan paid tribute to the singer after she received her first ever Oscar nomination for her role of Glinda in the film. Taking to his Instagram, the proud boyfriend posted a photo of the back of Ariana in an oversized white jumper holding an array of pink balloons. The picture contained no caption, but his pride for his girlfriend spoke volumes.
Ariana was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Critics Choice Awards, but was beaten to the gong by Zoe Saldaña for her role in Emilia Pérez. Cynthia Erivo was nominated for Best Actress for her portrayal as Elphaba. However, the award was taken home by Demi Moore for her role in The Substance.
