Shabir Hussain founded the first Akbar’s in Bradford in 1995 and the group now has 10 restaurants across the north of England and Midlands – the chain was known as the ‘King of Curry’

The culinary world is mourning the loss of Shabir Hussain, founder and chief executive of the popular Akbar’s restaurant chain, who has tragically died at 56.

Shabir started the journey of Akbar’s in Bradford back in 1995, transforming a modest 28-seat eatery into a prestigious brand with 10 award-winning venues. It has been shared that Mr Hussain was battling cancer before his untimely death. The chain garnered acclaim as the ‘King of Curry’.

Please remember Shabir Hussain in your prayers. May Allah (SWT) grant him the highest rank in Jannah and bring peace and strength to his family during this difficult time.”

Naz Shah, Bradford West Labour MP, joined the chorus of condolences, penning her tribute: “Deeply saddened to hear about passing of Shabhir Hussain founder and CEO of the Akbars group in Bradford,” reports Yorkshire Live.
