Shoppers can pick up an all-new Amazon Fire TV from £279.99, saving £150 on its usual price this Black Friday week

For many shoppers, Black Friday is the ultimate opportunity to finally make those expensive purchases they’ve been unable to justify throughout the rest of the year. And one bit of kit you might be eyeing up – particularly with the cold weather seeing us hunker down in the house more – is a new TV.

And as part of their Black Friday week, Amazon has slashed the price on a number of their popular Fire TVs , saving more than £100 on the latest models. The newest devices boast an ultra-slim bezel, which ‘puts your entertainment front and centre’, as well as vivid 4K Ultra HD.

Released this year, the all-new Amazon Fire TV 43″ 4-Series 4K UHD smart TV has been reduced from £429.99, down to £279.99, saving £150 on the usual price. Meanwhile, the 50” version is now £329.99 instead of £499.99, with the 55” coming in at £379.99, down from £549.99, both saving £170.

The TVs are said to ‘deliver a clearer and more vibrant picture ’ with brighter colours compared to 1080p Full HD. Shoppers can also use the Alexa Voice Remote Enhanced to easily find, launch and control what you’re watching. You can even check the weather, sports scores and more.

I actually have the slightly older Fire TV model , available from £229.99, having bought it earlier in the year during Amazon’s Prime Day sale. Our old TV had been giving up for quite some time, and our only regret was not upgrading sooner – though we were glad to have held out for the sale price.

For those unfamiliar with the different models, the Amazon Fire 4-Series is a step up from the 2-Series device , but not quite as high-tech as the Omni series , striking a happy medium between the two.

As for our TV, while it’s not the newest model, my experience of upgrading to an Amazon Fire TV may be helpful in helping you decide whether or not to add one to your basket this Black Friday. First of all, we found that the 4K Ultra HD resolution with HDR 10 and HLG support instantly levelled up our viewing experience. The colours are vibrant and the picture is really crisp, making movies and series feel really immersive and cinematic.

The Fire TV interface is incredibly slick, making it really easy to switch between your regular programmes and streaming services, with apps like Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+ all in one place. Plus it has three HDMI ports, which means you can easily plug in devices like games consols or soundbars – though the Dolby Digital Plus provides good sound quality on its own.

While the 4-Series doesn’t support hands-free Alexa voice control or two-way video calling, for the price and what we use it for, these aren’t dealbreakers. And while we’re impressed and more than happy with the picture quality, it’s not quite on par with high-end models like OLED TVs, but for this price range, it’s more than enough.

If you’re looking to upgrade your TV this Black Friday, my recommendation would be the 50” Amazon Fire TV 50″ 4-Series 4K UHD smart TV for £329.99 Alternatively, our tech experts have pulled together some of our best deals on smart TVs for a range of budgets from Currys, Very, Amazon and Sky.
