People have been left gobsmacked after discovering that the Hard Rock Cafe isn’t actually an American chain. The restaurant inaugural cafe was launched in London in 1971 by two US entrepreneurs, Isaac Tigrett and Peter Morton.

Since it was set up, the brand has grown globally and now boasts a significant footprint in America. Hard Rock International operates venues in over 74 countries today, ranging from cafes to hotels to casinos. It is known for its collectable fashion and music-related merchandise, Hard Rock Live performance venues and more. Lisa Dollan, an American woman living in Yorkshire, UK recently took to TikTok to express how shocked she was after learning that Hard Rock Cafe isn’t actually American but is, in fact, British.

In the video, she listed British things that she thought were American, with the origin of Hard Rock Cafe blowing her away the most.

Lisa revealed: “This one blew my mind. I am sitting in this place and I say to my friends, my British friends, ‘oh my God this is so cool that y’all have one of these here now’.”

The American expat then pointed to an on-screen graphic of the Hard Rock Cafe logo and continued recounting the conversation she had with her friends: “To which they go ‘sorry? You’re sitting in literally the first one.’

She concluded: “Honestly what did we (Americans) come up with? What did we come up with?”

Her TikTok video has even taken Brits by surprise, with many admitting in the comments that they too believed Hard Rock Cafe came from America.

One confessed: “I’m British and thought Hard Rock Cafe was American until now.” Another admitted: “To be fair I’m English and always assumed Hard Rock Café was American.”

A third said: “As a British person, I thought Hard Rock Cafe was also American because we only have like 4 here while USA has loads. USA really took that idea and ran with it.”

Others expressed their shock at learning this fact about the internationally renowned rock-themed chain, with comments such as “honestly, this is how I’m finding out Hard Rock Cafe is British”, “I actually thought Hard Rock Cafe was American!” and “wait…Hard Rock Cafe isn’t American?”

Another user chimed in: “To be fair I didn’t know Hard Rock is British, it does make sense with our Rock history.”

Some of the most legendary rock bands are from the UK, including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Oasis and Led Zeppelin.

Also, Rod Stewart, Elton John and Eric Clapton are famous British solo rock artists.

Another British thing Lisa assumed was American that she spoke about in her TikTok video is the TV game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
