A fifth of Gen Z experience a sense of dread before the beginning of the working week – these expert tips could help
A survey of 2,000 adults revealed that only 45% of Gen Z believe they have a good work-life balance. This figure is 15% lower than those in their final decade of employment.
While 18% experience the ‘Sunday scaries’, a slightly higher 20% reported feeling most anxious on Monday mornings.
The top concerns for Gen Z in the workplace included meeting deadlines, having difficult conversations with managers, and maintaining a work-life balance.
However, a lucky 5% of under-25s claimed to have no workplace anxiety.
Digital creator and entrepreneur, Caspar Lee, commented: “Navigating the modern workplace can be challenging, especially at this time of year when burnout is at its peak.”
He added, “It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by deadlines, presentations, or even choosing the right outfit for an important meeting.”
Nearly half of Gen Z attempt to plan their days effectively to manage tasks and improve their work-life balance.
A small 13% have turned to AI to help them organise their schedules, a figure that’s 10% higher than those over 55.
A spokesperson for Google’s AI Assistant, Gemini Live, which commissioned the study, stated: “Many of us experience ‘the fear’ before a big work week, with many finding organisation and planning as the source of their stress.”
“AI assistants are perfectly poised to take on these problems and help quell the anxiety that comes with the modern 9-5.”
When quizzed on how an AI tool might alleviate their job-induced stress, Generation Z showed a preference for tailored relaxation plans.
They’re all for schedules that meld breathing exercises, meditation, and well-structured to-do lists for more efficient task management.
Remarkably, two out of every five are even open to relying on AI for concocting meal plans or timetables for snacking.
