Alexander Isak has been in red hot form in the Premier League this season, and both Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with summer moves for the Newcastle forward
Newcastle United CEO Darren Eales has reminded potential suitors that star man Alexander Isak has a number of years left on his contract – with talks over an extension planned at the end of the season.
Swedish striker Isak is the third-highest scorer in the Premier League this season with 19 goals, behind only Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland. He has proved key to Eddie Howe’s side since joining in a club-record move in the summer of 2022, helping Newcastle qualify for the Champions League in his first season.
The Magpies remain in contention for a top four finish this season, though fifth place could yet be enough for Champions League qualification. They’re in sixth place with 11 games remaining, but just four points behind Nottingham Forest in third.
Liverpool have failed in an audacious attempt to sign Isak in a player-plus-cash deal involving Darwin Nunez, it has been claimed. They and fellow suitors Arsenal may yet return in the summer, but Newcastle’s chief has stood firm.
“The reality is that all of our players are under long-term deals,” Eales told reporters, per the i. “They’re committed to the club. So, from that perspective, we’re not looking to move any player on. We’ve got that wish and desire to keep our key players [and] we’re not under the gun [to sell] or anything like that.
“We’ve got an ownership that is ambitious [and] wants the best for the club. So from that perspective, it’d be crazy for us to consider it.”
Describing Isak as “world-class,” Eales recognised interest is inevitable but made it clear the club wants to keep their star man around. “We’re going to be clear – he has multiple years left,” he continued.
“So like all of these things, we will have the discussions in terms of a new deal just like we did with Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon. That’s something that we will approach in the summer.”

Isak scored his 22nd goal of the season on Sunday, scoring a penalty in a 2-1 extra-time defeat to Brighton in the FA Cup. He also picked up an injury scare late on in regular time, leaving him with just a fortnight to recover for the Carabao Cup final, but former Newcastle star Alan Shearer expects him to be back in time.
“From what I’m hearing he’s going to be fine for the final,” Shearer said on The Rest is Football podcast. “I guess that’s what Eddie Howe has to factor in over the next two weekends.
“If there’s even a 2% doubt about someone then I guess he’s just going to leave them out in preparation for the final and I don’t blame him for that,” he added. Newcastle have one more league match to navigate before the final, away at West Ham on March 10.
