Bukayo Saka is back in the gym with the Arsenal star getting closer to a return from the significant hamstring injury he sustained while playing at Crystal Palace in December

Arsenal have teased a huge boost on the injury front by sharing a series of images that show star man Bukayo Saka is back in the gym as he recovers from a torn hamstring.

England star Saka has been out of action since injuring his leg away to Crystal Palace in mid-December – with attacking team-mates Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli since joining him on the sidelines and Mikel Arteta recently confirming that the latter would need a scan on his hamstring issue.

And that has seen Mikel Arteta’s side struggle for consistency in attack to leave them clinging on to the tail of Premier League leaders Liverpool, who are currently six points clear with a game in hand.

Arsenal’s first-team squad is in Dubai on a warm-weather training camp this week – after the Gunners were knocked out of the FA Cup – and the club have now confirmed that Saka is stepping up his rehabilitation.

Saka had scored nine goals and contributed 13 assists before sustaining the injury. It remains unclear when he will be fit to make a return to the starting line-up.

Last week Mikel Arteta confirmed the blow that Martinelli would have an MRI on his injured hamstring, while Jesus is set to miss the rest of the campaign after rupturing his cruciate ligament last month.

Arsena l will look to strengthen their attack in the summer transfer after manager Arteta admitted that he was “disappointed” by the club’s failure to bolster his options in the winter transfer window.

“We had a clear intention which is always there is a window open to explore the opportunities to improve our squad with players that can impact it,” Arteta said last week.

“We haven’t achieved it so we are disappointed in that sense but as well we are very aware that we only want to bring certain kinds of players and we have to be very disciplined with that and I think we will.”

The Gunners have been linked with a move for former Everton flop Moise Kean by Italian media with the 24-year-old Italy forward, who has a release clause of £43m, enjoying his most prolific campaign yet at Fiorentina.

Arsenal are also being linked with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, though a summer move for Newcastle star Alexander Isak will be unlikely if the St James’ Park club can seal their return to the Champions League.
