Asda shoppers are divided over whether part of the supermarket’s festive food line up is a ‘step too far’

Asda customers have been divided over the latest festive product to hit the shop shelves. The unique flavoured sauce could be the new Marmite – with some loving the idea whilst others have deemed it “revolting”.

The peculiar Tasty Roast Potato Flavour Mayo, costing £1.10 per bottle, is described as being ‘perfect in turkey sandwiches’. However, this mayo has sparked quite the controversy on social media after a picture was posted on Asda’s Facebook page.

The post shared some suggestions made by shoppers like a Christmas dinner leftovers sandwich. Some even wondered about pairing it with a “banging homemade potato salad”, whilst another wrote: “Maybe nice on jacket potatoes?”

Excited customers have reacted strongly, with comments like “we have gotta try this” and another praising “sounds delicious”. But, it has also provoked disgust from others, reports the Manchester Evening News.

One unimpressed shopper demanded Asda needs to “know when to stop”. A different user declared: “Sounds revolting.” A third wrote: “Vile! What’s wrong with normal mayo?”

Another said: “That’s just wrong……why would you do that!” Someone else added: “These flavoured mayos are getting outta control!”

Asda is no stranger to bold new sauce combos. Earlier this year the supermarket launched equally divisive Chip Shop Curry Mayonnaise. Gathering five-star customer reviews online, customers say “just had this for the first time and will definitely buy again”.

For those interested, the product blends “a mayonnaise style sauce with roast garlic purée, onion stock and rosemary” to create the flavour of the classic Christmas dinner side. And it seems curiosity might win out. The 270g bottles are available both in store and online.

It is part of the wider Christmas range being released by Asda that includes some less adventurous – but still special – items. It includes sweet treats, tasty party food and refreshing drinks.
