BBC Proms: Sam Smith makes reassurance to fans

BBC Proms viewers were left praising Sam Smith only minutes into the show’s broadcast on BBC2 on Saturday evening (August 24).

The Proms opened its doors at The Royal Albert Hall, in London, to host another leading star in modern pop as Sam Smith performed alongside the BBC orchestra.

The 32-year-old singer teamed up with conductor Simon Hale and 16-piece choir the LJ Singers to play tracks from Smith’s back log from over the past 10 years.

Opening with Good Thing, Smith looked very smart in a black suit while belting out the popular track. A perfect rendition of I’m Not The Only One followed and viewers watching BBC Proms at home were left very impressed

After performing the second song, Smith addressed the audience and expressed their gratitude for performing at the prestigious venue.

Smith said: “I have been thinking about this since I was a kid, and I just want to say to the BBC and everyone here. Thank you for having me.”

Fans of the show rushed to social media to leave flurries of compliments for Smith, with one person writing on X: “This is all rather impressive… #bbcproms #samsmith.”

A second stated: “Say what you want about Sam Smith but they’re a supremely talented singer”, while a third exclaimed: “The respectable look suits Sam Smith very well, loving their Proms gig!! #bbcproms.”
