Senator Bernie Sanders was met by the world’s media as he departed from Donald Trump’s address to Congress early yesterday (March 4), and he had nine scathing words for the US President

Bernie Sanders delivered an hilarious nine-word quip to the press on Tuesday (March 4) as he made an early exit from Donald Trump’s lengthy address to Congress.

While President Trump was busy outlining his plans to slap trade tariffs on Mexico and Canada and optimistically speaking about peace prospects between Russia and Ukraine, it seemed Senator Sanders had other priorities. As Trump proclaimed that America was “back” and celebrated the resurgence of the American dream, Sanders decided to duck out in preparation for his own address.

Trump boasted during his speech: “I return to this chamber tonight to report that America’s momentum is back. Our spirit is back. Our pride is back. Our confidence is back.” He also took swipes at the previous administration’s “radical left woke ideology” and lauded his own administration’s approach to immigration, transgender issues, and the economy.

Furthermore, Trump stood by his decision to impose new tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China, stating: “Whatever they tariff us, we tariff them. Whatever they tax us, we tax them.”

Caught on camera leaving the event, the 83-year old Sanders was asked for his take on Trump’s oration. “My speech is going to be better. Thank you,” he said.

The remark prompted a flurry of reactions from hundreds of social media users who weighed in with their opinions on his brief but memorable response. Some sang Sanders’ praises, with one saying: “The leader that we deserved but weren’t ready for.”

Another fan declared: “I would give up four years of my life to give Bernie Sanders one more attempt to run.” A third supporter agreed with Sanders’ actions, saying: “Iconic. And he was right. It was better.” Whilst a A fourth person expressed: “Shame they didn’t all have the guts to walk out.”

However, not everyone was impressed with Sanders’ move. One critic joked: “Damn! He moves faster than I thought he would. Nobody missed him. He’s probably sad he didn’t get one of those pathetic signs to hold up. Nobody would share with him.”

Another user attacked Sanders’ credibility: “I don’t really need to hear anymore Bernie Sanders lies about how he’s against the rich elite (when he is one of them) and how he’s against big pharma (when he’s owned by them).”

A third critic labelled Sanders an “angry self-serving bitter little rich man that is jealous as hell because he isn’t the President and no one wants him to be.” Meanwhile, a fourth user showed support for the president, penning: “Hilarious how absolutely no one listens to this man like how Trump can command an audience.”

Later in the evening, Sanders took aim at Trump’s “big lies” as he issued his own speech to Congress. Sanders asserted: “As you heard tonight, President Trump has been very effective in creating what I would call a parallel universe for his supporters,” and went on to say, “A set of ideas that have either no basis in reality, or in the great scheme of things – are nowhere near the most important concerns of the American people.”

He didn’t hold back as he elaborated: “The one way he does that is through the concept of the big lie, and boy did we hear that tonight. You say something that is grossly false, say it over and over again and have the right-wing social media blast it out endless times until people actually believe it.”

Earlier, Trump had expressed gratitude towards Elon Musk after revealing DOGE’s role in uncovering “hundreds of billions of dollars of fraud” He also reiterated his controversial claim that “tens of millions of dead people over 100-years old are still receiving social security payments.”

Amid recent tensions involving a minerals deal with Ukraine, Trump shared some positive developments, telling Congress about a letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky indicating a willingness to resume negotiations. Trump conveyed his “appreciation”, quoting: “The letter reads Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. Nobody wants peace more than the Ukrainians.”
