Analysing 49 international airlines, the research found one particular airline is the best to upgrade on, while five other airlines were also highly recommended

Google Trends analysis has shown a significant increase in searches for ‘how to upgrade flight’ and ‘flight upgrade’, with a rise of 207% and 146% respectively this year. This surge has led to these search terms reaching their highest levels in the past two decades.

In response, lifestyle magazine Dailybase analysed 49 international airlines that offer business class cabins to determine which ones provide the best value for money when upgrading. The study compared the experience of flying in economy versus business class across several factors including seat size and type, in-flight entertainment and food reviews, Wi-Fi availability, and overall Tripadvisor review scores.

Each factor was given an index score, weighted, and compiled to create a definitive ranking of the best airlines to upgrade your ticket with. The research found that Singapore Airlines topped the list, scoring an impressive 87.46% on the index, equivalent to a total index score of 61.23 out of 70.

The standout feature of Singapore Airlines’ business class is not only the seats that convert into flat beds but also the additional 9.5-inch width they offer on average.

Singapore Airlines has been crowned the best airline to upgrade your ticket on, according to a new study. The airline scored the highest of any of the 49 airlines considered, with an impressive four out of five stars for in-flight entertainment, food, and overall customer experience, as per reviews on SKYTRAX and Tripadvisor, reports the Express.

Spanish airline Iberia came in second place, with an overall index score of 57.82 out of 70, equating to 82.59%. Business class passengers can enjoy some of the most legroom of any business passenger across all airlines analysed, with an average of 40 inches more than economy cabins.

Delta Air Lines was the top-ranked US-based airline, coming in third overall with a score of 81.64%. It’s also the only North American airline to make the top 10.

Like Singapore Airlines, Delta has received an overall Tripadvisor review score of four out of five stars, having won the website’s Travellers’ Choice Awards multiple times and earning over 25,000 ‘excellent’ reviews from customers. The top three airlines most worth upgrading are:
