Emma Wood, 46, from Treherbert, Rhondda, Wales, tragically died on October 19 during a family holiday in Spain while celebrating her son’s 13th birthday
A beloved mum-of-four from Wales has tragically died while celebrating her son’s 13th birthday during a family holiday in Spain.
Emma Wood, 46, from Treherbert in the Rhondda, was on a boat trip with her loved ones last Sunday (October 19) when she suddenly collapsed. Despite desperate efforts to save her, Ms Wood could not be revived.
The family had travelled 1,200 miles from Wales to the Costa del Sol to celebrate her son becoming a teenager.
Ms Wood leaves behind four children, who her family say she “absolutely idolised” and were her “greatest joy”. She is remembered as a “devoted mother, daughter, and friend, always ready to help anyone in need”.

Family friend Amanda Jayne shared the news on behalf of Ms Wood’s mother Dianne Astley. She described her as “the kindest soul, beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside”.
“The family ask for time to come to terms with this tragedy,” Ms Jayne said. “Emma, you are so loved by so many [and] taken far too soon. Rest in eternal peace, beautiful girl.”
Ms Wood’s body was taken to a hospital on the Costa del Sol and an inquest into her death is expected to open in Pontypridd at a later date.
Officials from the British Embassy in Spain are supporting her family and are working with the Spanish authorities following the tragedy. A Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British national who died in Spain, and are in contact with the local authorities.”
