Ferrari may not have had a great Formula 1 season but drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc remain aligned when it comes to at least one crucial aspect of the team
Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur has been a constant fixture in the headlines this season. However, Charles Leclerc and team-mate Lewis Hamilton have confirmed they are ‘completely aligned’ in their support for him.
The 2025 season has proven to be a tough one for Vasseur’s team. Last December, the Scuderia were battling McLaren for the constructors’ championship title in Abu Dhabi and missed out on the final day, but the current campaign has brought an entirely different reality.
With just five rounds left this year, Ferrari have yet to win a Grand Prix and find themselves in a scrap with Mercedes and Red Bull for second place. McLaren have already secured the teams’ title with several rounds remaining.
Adding to the complexity of the Italian constructor’s campaign is the ongoing speculation about Vasseur’s future. Despite the Frenchman signing a multi-year contract in July, rumours surfaced earlier this month suggesting Ferrari might make a sensational move for ex-Red Bull boss Christian Horner.

Despite the speculation, Vasseur continues to enjoy the backing of Ferrari chairman John Elkann. Ahead of the United States Grand Prix earlier this month, Elkann issued a statement expressing his full confidence in Vasseur and his team.
“I want to express our full confidence in team principal Fred Vasseur and in the work he is doing together with all his colleagues at Scuderia Ferrari – the mechanics, engineers and drivers who are busy this weekend in Austin,” it read. “I would also like to reiterate the importance of teamwork on everyone’s part in order to maintain focus on the only goal that matters: always giving our best on the track.”

Crucially, Vasseur also enjoys the support of Leclerc and Hamilton. Both drivers share a strong bond with their team boss, having collaborated with the 57-year-old previously in their racing careers and say they have faith in the direction he is taking.
“I think we are speaking from our hearts and what we think is right,” Leclerc said in Mexico. “I think it’s very important to say that all these rumours are unfounded and, in those cases, it’s not like we speak about those rumours together with Lewis.
“But we both are completely aligned and we both know Fred since many years and we both trust that Fred is the right person in order to bring Ferrari back to the top. For that, we are very much aligned, so we didn’t have to speak about it.”
Vasseur hasn’t been the sole prominent Ferrari personality caught up in gossip. Leclerc was cautiously connected with Mercedes – speculation he firmly rejected – whilst Hamilton’s extended future on the F1 circuit was questioned following a downbeat interview at the Hungarian Grand Prix, where he told his squad to “change driver” if they desired improved performances.
