British expat Kevin Morgan, 62, had been riding a quad bike in Lopburi, Thailand, when he hit a concrete barrier at high speed and died after being thrown 30ft through the air

A British expat killed in a horrific quad bike crash in Thailand over the weekend has been pictured for the first time.

It was reported at the weekend the victim had been riding the vehicle when he crashed into a concrete barrier on a motorway flyover in Lopburi on Saturday. The collision sent the all-terrain vehicle spinning across the road and he was thrown 30ft through the air.

He has now been identified as expat Kevin Morgan, 62. He had been living in Thailand with a caretaker for around 14 years and had only recently retired. It is understood Kevin worked as an electrical inspector at oil and gas platforms in the North Sea, Daily Record reports.

Local police confirmed his family in the UK have been informed. Mr Morgan was a member of the local Rotary Club, where he participated in humanitarian activities. The Rotary Club said: “We would like to extend our condolences to the family of Mr Kevin, a member of the Rotary Club of Ban Mi. We have lost a quality social service member of our club.”

Police Lieutenant Sirirat Darunikorn of the Ban Mi District Police Station said: “We received a report from the radio centre about the accident at around 5am. The vehicle crashed against the bridge barrier and the victim fell to the ground, resulting in his death.

“The scene was an elevated U-turn bridge over a railway. The deceased had a caretaker in Thailand. They were lovers but they weren’t married. He had been staying in Thailand for around 13 to 14 years, travelling in and out of the country for work before he retired this year.”

Officers arrived at the scene and found his damaged vehicle near the sharp bend. Black skid marks were visible on the concrete barrier and his body was found on the grass below the flyover.

“After he retired, he stayed in Thailand, and the locals were quite familiar with him. His family here have already informed his relatives back in his home country.”

Thailand has one of the world’s worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by 2027. A Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Thailand.”
