Sam Asghari has opened up about his marriage with Britney Spears and their subsequent divorce – but he has nothing bad to say about the pop princess
Britney Spears’ ex-husband Sam Asghari has opened up about his time with the music star.
The couple first met when the original actor who was set to appear in her 2016 music video for Slumber Party failed to turn up at filming. Their friendship went on to blossom into a romance, with many believing that Britney, who had suffered heartache in the past had finally found her forever husband. The pair went Instagram official in January the following year as they welcomed in 2017 together at a party in Los Angeles.
In September 2021, the pair became engaged after Sam popped the question as they took to social media to share their joyeous news. Sam had been at Britney’s side throughout her conservatorship and was extremely vocal about his support for the If U Seek Amy songstress.
Throughout the Free Britney movement, he used his social media handles to speak out in hopes of Britney being released from the court-mandated conservatorship which her father, Jamie Spears, had held against her. Now, in a new interview, he has stated that he will never say a bad word about the pop princess.
Sam, who is set to star on the US version of The Traitors said: “I think it’s the bare minimum you can do as a partner, to be a backbone to someone and to be their biggest supporter, biggest cheerleader, the biggest… The biggest everything.” The pair married at her California home on June 9, 2022. However, she filed for divorce the following year citing irreconcilable differences, with their divorce being signed off on December 2, 2024.
He told Page Six: “I just wish her the best. I think that the number one factor of a partner is to be there for one another, no matter what.” Sam also admits that while their romance is firmly in the past – he has no desire to “take advantage” of Britney and her fame. He said: “We all go through this life and we go through different chapters and you meet people along the way and they are a big part of your life. You’re just always thankful for every moment that you spent with people in the past.”
He also has no time for couples who often lash out at one another publicly following a split, admitting he had “never liked that behaviour” and is “glad” it’s never happened to him. But eight months after their divorce was finalised, Sam has gone public with his new girlfriend, Brooke Irvine.
Model Sam wished his followers a Happy New Year as he uploaded the shots of the pair very hands on. In the first image, they stood under a palm tree and gazed at each other. Sam was in an all white outfit, while Brooke matched, with a fitted dress with a thigh-high split.
Another showed them lying together in bathing suits on a tree hanging over the clear ocean. And a third of the duo in matching black attire had them hugging one another. The last two uploads also had the couple embraced in matching outfits as they enjoyed their time together. His followers were quick to praised the post, with his sister among those sharing the love. Sister Maddie simply posted two love heart emojis in response to his post.
Sam and Brooke were first romantically linked in November. They pair have been spotted out and about in the Los Angeles area, leading to speculation about their relationship. The aspiring actor opened up to PEOPLE at the time about starting a new chapter in his life.
When asked about adjusting to life away from Britney, he told the publication: “It’s the bed that you make yourself, and you got to learn how to lay in it, so it’s part of the lifestyle. You just got to keep it positive. You got to stay grounded and understand what the truth is and really just live with that rather than other people’s opinions or anything like that.”
