Casemiro returned to the Manchester United line-up during the Red Devils’ Carabao Cup thumping of League One side Barnsley on Tuesday evening and took action against his teammate

Manchester United fans have hailed Casemiro for stopping Alejandro Garnacho from performing a Cristiano Ronaldo-themed celebration.

The Argentine forward started in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup thumping of Barnsley at Old Trafford. He marked his appearance with a brace – leaving his record at the start of the season sitting at an impressive four goals in just six outings in all competitions.

After scoring his first goal of the game, Garnacho ran to the corner as if he was about to replicate Ronaldo’s iconic ‘Siuuu’ celebration.

But before he could do that, teammate Casemiro attempted to pull him back with the youngster instead sitting on the advertising boards. One eagle-eyed United fan said: “Casemiro was stopping Garnacho from doing Ronaldo celebration because they’ll kick him out of Argentina squad.”

Garnacho has come in for stick from his Argentina colleagues for copying his childhood hero Ronaldo. Ex-United star Angel Di Maria has demanded he stop the celebrations, while Leandro Paredes has revealed Garnacho is often teased when he joins up for international duty.

The midfielder said: “We joked about it with him. He is very shy and does not answer. Poor guy, we drove him crazy. We also talked to him about what the group is, somehow we try to make them feel part of it and feel comfortable.

“Although in this case he got very nervous and couldn’t talk. But as he said, I think he [Ronaldo] is his idol, he always followed him a lot and he plays quite similar. So it’s normal, nothing happens. Obviously, when he comes to the national team he has to change a little bit because there is ours.”

On a night with a staggering seven goals, there were plenty of opportunities for celebrations, with Garnacho also playing a part after one of Marcus Rashford’s striker. After the England forward had found the net, Garnacho reminded his attacking colleague to pull out his iconic celebration of pointing to his head.

One Red Devils fan said: “I love how Garnacho reminded Rashford to do his celebration and sprinted over to Antony to make sure he enjoyed his moment too. Sometimes it’s the little stuff like this which makes a huge difference to team spirit. Good to see from a young lad.”

Following the 7-0 win against Barnsley, both Rashford and Garnacho will be aiming to extend their excellent respective forms in United’s next outing. The Red Devils take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday evening.
