WARNING DISTRESSING IMAGES: Feline Pandek remains in a life-threatening condition and refused to eat after his owner is alleged to have severed his tongue in the brutal attack

A cat was left with horrific injuries after being beaten and brutalised after he took a piece of his owner’s bacon.

Feline Pandek was left with “many cut wounds,” believed to be from a knife, to his abdomen, back and eyelid. The poor pet also suffered a damaged eyeball and partially severed tongue in the attack.

Distressing photos show Pandek suffering with open wounds to his face, legs and stomach while being treated with vets in Poland. Following surgery, Pandek was seen with his wounds stitched up and with one of his legs wrapped tightly in a bandage.

Krakow Shelter for Homeless Animals in Poland was alerted to the macabre attack on Sunday, November 10, after police asked them to collect an injured cat. “It turned out the animal had been beaten by its owner,” the shelter alleged in a statement on its website.

The November 14 statement continued: “The cat was also hit hard in the head and due to neurological changes, its condition had to be stabilised before further steps were taken. The next day, it underwent a difficult, three-hour operation.”

Despite making it through the surgery, Pandek initially refused to eat and needed to be fed with a tube. The shelter said it “will not rest until the owner of this cat is held accountable.”

“We are fighting for the life of the animal and we will fight for justice for him,” the statement said. While Pandek was brought in a horrendous condition, staff at the shelter praised him as “very friendly” and that he “fawned on the doctors.”

“Today, he is stable, but still refuses to eat and has to be probed,” the statement added. “Most likely, it is not because of a lack of appetite, but the pain caused by the severed tongue.”

Thankfully, the shelter said in an update post shared today that Pandek was finally eating by himself. But despite the positive development, they stressed he still had a long way to go on his road to recovery.

“He is still in the hospital and still has a long way to go to regain full strength,” they said today. “Of course, we will keep you updated on Pandek’s progress.”

Thousands of people across Poland and abroad have offered to adopt the cat. The shelter said on November 15 that Pandek was still in a life-threatening condition and that the priority is to focus on his health.

They will only start looking for a new home for Pandek when he has left the veterinary hospital. The Mirror has contacted the shelter and Krakow police for comment.

Staff at the shelter are taking legal action against the owner amid the allegations and are paying for Pandek’s treatment. Anyone who wants to view fundraising for Pandek can visit the shelter’s website here.
