A cleaning guru has shared an ‘amazing’ hack to help you get rid of grime that’s hidden in your sink – but people have been left feeling sick after giving the cleaning tip a go

Despite our sinks being used daily, most of us wouldn’t spare a thought for what’s lurking beneath the plug – and perhaps that’s for the best.

Washing up dirty dishes and half-drunk glasses will inevitably impact your sinkhole, regardless of how careful you are, and the result is probably far more disgusting than you’d imagine. A cleaning expert has now left followers horrified after revealing their trick for eliminating hidden sink grime, with some admitting they’re now too ‘scared to look’ at their own sinks after seeing the full grim reality.

A member of the kitchen gadgets store Cultro, known on TikTok as @cultrostore, shared a video of the clever hack, which starts by removing the sink strainer or plug. The strainer or plug is then utilised to carefully unscrew the sinkhole, exposing the unpleasant build-up underneath.

The video reveals a thick brown mass accumulated under the plug hole, which would have remained blissfully unseen if the plug hadn’t been removed. Fortunately, the mass was shown to be easily removable, leaving the sinkhole sparkling clean again after a good scrub. The video has since racked up over 1.5 million views, with many expressing shock at just how dirty the sink was.

Responding to a query about whether the issue affects all stainless steel sinks, the savvy poster replied affirmatively, saying: “the smell was horrendous when I first took it out, but it’s as clean as a whistle now!” Reacting in disbelief, another user shared their experience: “Man, first time I ever took mine off after watching this. It was filthy.”

While some expressed revulsion, others praised the revelation with one grateful person posting: “Honestly I am so chuffed I have seen this as it’s been doing my head in that my drains can smell that bad. This has actually made my evening seeing this.”
