Paul C Brunson has been a familiar face on our screens in recent years, thanks to his roles on dating shows such as Married At First Sight and Celebs Go Dating

Known being the expert on reality shows such as Married At First Sight and Celebs Go Dating, relationship guru Paul C Brunson is accustomed to the ups and downs of matchmaking.

But in 2014, he faced personal tragedy when he learned of the suicide of a close friend and renowned social media innovator Karyn Washington. Only 22 years old at the time of her death, she was known for influential movements like For Brown Girls and #DarkSkinRedLip.

Following her untimely death, a heartbroken Brunson took to social media to share his pain: “I met Karyn 4 years ago at an event I hosted in Baltimore and since that night, we periodically emailed and talked.” He continued to remember Karyn, highlighting her dedication: “She was an incredible woman,” he penned. “Passionate about causes close to heart and organized (resulting in the success of several of her projects). My eyes are swelling as I write… Karyn was such a beautiful talent who left too soon.”

He made a heartfelt call to those battling with dark thoughts, saying: “If you feel on the brink of taking your life, tell someone that you’re having suicidal thoughts immediately,” and stressed, “Do not keep this to yourself for one second longer.”

He also urged: “If you feel like you have no one to turn to during this difficult time, then you should immediately check yourself into a hospital. You may feel like this is dramatic, but this is the seriousness that the situation deserves.”, reports OK!.

Karyn, a university student, was the creative mind behind the inspiring For Brown Girls website, which applauds the beauty of women with darker skin tones, and was also at the helm of the #DarkSkinRedLip project. This came to life after a derogatory remark by hip-hop artist A$AP Rocky hinted that dark-skinned women couldn’t pull off red lipstick.

Paul is dishing out tips in the latest series of Celebs Go Dating. Earlier in the year, the 50-year-old father of two offered insights into his marriage with Jill his partner of 22 years revealing how they navigate through marital hiccups. Opening up about their approach to resolving issues, he expressed, “The biggest issue we’ve had is we used to avoid arguments, especially in our matchmaking business. But we’ve learnt that being able to repair an argument is one of the most important skills you can have in any relationship. It’s the number one issue that couples have; we see it in Married At First Sight.

“That’s one of the biggest changes we made in our marriage. We have two boys, aged 13 and 10, and we will disagree”.
