A chef’s ‘easiest tomato recipe you’ll ever see’ using two unusual ingredients has gone down a storm online with foodies admitting it tastes ‘absolutely gorgeous’

A chef shared a recipe for creating the “easiest” tomato soup – using ingredients you wouldn’t expect, but ones you’re likely to have in your kitchen cupboards.

Taking to TikTok, the Aldi Chef (@the_aldi_chef) began his video by declaring: “This is the easiest tomato soup recipe you’ll ever see.” With his ingredients laid out, first he chopped two carrots “roughly” before adding them to his soup maker.

Advising the method is “syn-free” for those following a Slimming World dieting plan, next he added two vegetable stock cubes and 200ml of water. A this point, fellow cooks should place accompanying crusty baguettes in the oven, he recommended.

Next came the first of the Aldi Chef’s unusual ingredients before explaining the method behind his madness. “Then add two tins of chopped tomatoes, followed by a full tin of baked beans,” he said. “Honestly, I’m not being crazy – it’s a real recipe.”

Three pickled onions followed – “more if they’re small” – he advised, before closing: “That’s it. Stick the lid on and let it do its magic. The Aldi Chef explained his soup maker warms the soup up and “mixes intermittently”, though the recipe can be followed manually too.

For those using a soup mixer, he added if you prefer your soup “chunky rather than smooth”, it’s advisable to halt the mixing process two minutes before completion. To complete the dish, the Aldi Chef said he added some black pepper, chilli flakes and basil, which “pimped it up and made it loads better”.

Impressively, the video has been viewed more than half-a-million times, with scores of the Aldi Chef’s followers praising his work in the comments section. “Absolutely gorgeous just made it in my soup maker,” one TikTok user responded.

A second hailed: “That’s looks really good, cheap nutritious, wouldn’t have thought of putting pickles in.” A third added: “Wow, that’s brilliant. I’d have never thought of used tinned beans.”

While a fourth person detailed their improvisation: “I love this soup, I add salt, pepper, lots of chilli and Worcestershire sauce, so good.”
