Chester Bennington’s mum has claimed that his Linkin Park bandmates had promised to give her a warning if they ever planned on reuniting which has left her feeling betrayed
Chester Bennington’s mum has hit out at the new Linkin Park line-up.
The rock band announced earlier this month that they were reuniting for the first time since 2017 after the band went on a hiatus following Chester’s death. But Chester’s mum, Susan Eubanks has shared her views on the reunion after the band announced that he had been replaced by Dead Sara singer Emily Armstrong, while Rob Bourdon had been replaced on drums by Colin Brittain.
Susan said that Chester’s former bandmates had promised to keep her in the loop if they had any plans to reunite. However, she heard of the reunion when it was made public. In a new op-ed piece, Susan has shared her heartache and admits she feels “betrayed” after not being given a heads up.
“They probably knew that I wasn’t going to be very happy, I’m very upset about it,” she said. Susan continued to state she feels as though Linkin Park are “trying to erase the past”, adding: “They’re performing songs that Chester sang and I don’t know how the fans are taking it but I know how I take it. Having [Armstrong] singing my son’s songs is hurtful,” she wrote for Rolling Stone.
Distressed Susan added that the band had previously told her that Chester’s entire family would be told if they had planned to reunite. Samantha, Chester’s first wife and his son Draven “didn’t know until it was told to the world, it was the same for me and it hurt,” she added.
Susan, however, isn’t a fan of Emily Armstrong’s singing abilities and stated that she once heard the vocalist “screeching her way through a very high note,” adding that she had to leave where she was immediately. But while Susan and Chester’s first wife have not been impressed, his widow Talinda appears to be impressed.
Talinda, 47, has shared her support for the new singer. Earlier this week, Emily shared a photo of herself on stage via Instagram and wrote a caption stating: “I’m so beyond excited for this next chapter!! The love and support does not go unnoticed. See you all soon.” Fans noticed that Talinda herself reacted to the post, sharing a string of flame emojis under the post. Reacting to her, one fan wrote: “Ms. Talinda approves!” alongside a rock n roll hand emoji. Another typed: “Thanks Talinda for supporting Emily.” A further fan commented: “You’re so sweet Talinda.”
Emily’s entry into Linkin Park has been controversial as her past support for convicted rapist Danny Masterson resurfaced. Addressing this, however, Emily wrote in a statement online: “Hi, I’m Emily. I’m new to so many of you, and I wanted to clear the air about something that happened a while back. Several years ago, I was asked to support someone I considered a friend at a court appearance, and went to one early hearing as an observer. Soon after, I realized I shouldn’t have.”
She continued, “I always try to see the good in people, and I misjudged him. I have never spoken with him since. Unimaginable details emerged and he was later found guilty. To say it as clearly as possible: I do not condone abuse or violence against women, and I empathize with the victims of these crimes.”
