Scottish takeaway Mayflower in Motherwell took to TikTok to share their recipes for how to make your takeaway order at home, including their popular chow mein noodles without vegetables
One of the most popular meals to get from a Chinese takeaway is the humble chow mein. But if you’re looking for a cheaper alternative, a fakeaway might be the best solution.
To make your takeaway cravings happy at home, a Chinese takeaway called Mayflower in Motherwell Scotland took to TikTok to share their recipe for how to make their popular chow mein without any vegetables at home – and it’s easier than you might think.
While the restaurant didn’t show the exact measurement of the ingredients, they shared the process of how you make a classic chow mein without any vegetables from your own kitchen.
They started by adding some oil into a hot wok pan before throwing in all the noodles and mixing with the oil so they get covered.
The restaurant then added a ‘splash’ of water with a ladle before continuing to stir it all together. They added some salt and MSG, also known as Monosodium Glutamate, which is a flavour enhancer used by some restaurants.
They continued stirring the noodles constantly as it cooked. Next they mixed in some dark sauce sauce before leaving it to cook while stirring. Another ingredient was a splash of sesame oil, which was also stirred in.
When the noodles have reached the softness you like, simply plate it up and enjoy your fakeaway at home. After sharing how to make the delicious yet beige looking meal at home, people flocked to the comments to share their thoughts.
“Chow mein NEEDS veg sorry not sorry,” one user criticised, while another person penned: “Without veg???? What’s the point, it’s like a pub with no beer.”
However others praised the simple meal, saying: “Honestly this is how I want it.” Another said: “Bro I never knew this was a thing, I just always picked the noodles out leaving the veg what.”
