Fans have been given an update on Coleen Nolan and her family following the loss of her late sister Linda Nolan. She opened up about her older sibling in an interview this week.

It was announced just two months ago that singer Linda had passed away, aged 65, after having been diagnosed with cancer. The news of her death prompted tributes from fans at the time and grieving relatives including her youngest sister Coleen, 60, have further paid tribute to her since.

Coleen spoke about the former Celebrity Big Brother housemate – who was her bandmate in the Nolans alongside their four other sisters – in an interview on Ireland AM this morning. She was interviewed by hosts Muireann O’Connell, 42, and Alan Hughes, 61, on the Virgin Media One show.

Asked how the family are doing now, Coleen said: “We’re doing okay. I mean, it’s a massive loss. Linda was such a big, big character in our family.” She then recalled her sister having first been diagnosed with cancer back in 2005, prior to a secondary cancer being identified years later in 2017.

“She first got cancer 20 years ago and she was doing so well, y’know, even up to the end. It was just at Christmas she caught the flu that was going round and that turned into pneumonia,” Coleen said. “Then with all the treatments she was on, she just … I think she just couldn’t do it anymore.”

Coleen continued: “So it kind of went from being we should have been expecting it for 20 years but actually when it happened, it happened so quick. It was quite shocking. And it’s just a massive loss in our family.” She shared with the two hosts: “So, yeah, we’re doing okay. You have to, don’t you?”

Loose Women panelist Coleen went on to discuss Linda’s funeral, which was held in their hometown of Blackpool last month. Fans lined the streets for the occasion as her loved ones celebrated her life at St Paul’s Church.

Ireland AM host Muireann said during the interview: “The send-off you had for her. Honestly, Coleen, I know I wasn’t there but it felt like I was because you really went all out.” She added: “It was a huge celebration and a party for her.”

Coleen responded: “Well, the thing with Linda is she was always up for a party. She organised parties for the sake of a party – she loved it!” She added: “It was a beautiful … if I can say this about a funeral … it was actually a beautiful day, a beautiful send-off for her. I felt like we were celebrating her life more than her death, really. The life that she lived.”

She later expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support that the family has received from fans in recent months. Coleen explained on the show: “Even to this day, the outpouring of love has been so touching, so emotional and has literally helped us get out of bed in the mornings.”
