Tucking into a Margherita during your work break might sound a little extravagant, but there’s a genius twist on the classic dish that you could easily rustle up. In fact, this pizza toasty takes just 10 minutes to whip up and tastes ‘absolutely unreal’. “In my opinion, an air fryer pizza toasty is one of the most elite things that you can have at lunch,” said cook Nate who went viral for the recipe. “They’re so easy. It’s just pizza sauce with some herbs, pepperoni and cheese. Double it up and then added in the air fryer.”

Airyfyer pizza toasty recipe

Ingredients (Serves ones)

  • 2 Slices of bread
  • Cheddar or mozzarella (you decide the amount)
  • Pepperoni
  • 2 tbsp Pizza sauce or passata
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic (optional)
  • 1 tsp Italian dry herbs

Method

  • Mix the pizza sauce, garlic and herbs together then spread evenly over the bread. Top with grated cheese and pepperoni; you can also substitute the meat for a veggie-alternative or use fresh ingredients like peppers, mushroom, and onion.
  • To stop the pepperoni blowing off in the air fryer, use cocktail sticks to keep them in place. Air fry for around seven mins at 180C.

Thousands of impressed viewers flocked to the comments section to share their thoughts, with many saying they couldn’t wait to try the recipe out for themselves and branding it ‘delicious’. “Pizza toast is amazing,” one user raved. Another agreed, commenting: “I need to try this.” A third added: “That looks amazing [drool],” while a fourth wrote: “You deserve a Nobel prize for this. I’m doing this tomorrow.”

Many viewers were concerned about the number of calories in the toasty, with one person suggesting a portion would be around 1,000 calories. However, this varies depending on the type of bread used, and how much cheese and pepperoni you’re using. If you’re trying to follow a calorie-restricted diet, it might be worth weighing out your cheese and opting for a low-calorie bread to make sure you’re sticking to your plan. “I would say it would be around the same [amount of calories] as a cheese sandwich (not many cals in the sauce, whatever for the pepperoni,” suggested one user.
