David Beckham is said to be “heartbroken” by his eldest son Brooklyn Peltz-Beckham’s apparent absence from a party for his 50th birthday this weekend. He’s celebrating the special occasion withfamily and friends tonight.

The retired footballer, now 50, is joined by his wife Victoria Beckham, 51, and celebrity pals like Gary Neville, 50, at the gathering in London. David’s youngest children Romeo Beckham, 22, Cruz Beckham, 20, and Harper Beckham, 13, are also among the party guests at the restaurant Core.

Brooklyn, 26, and his wife Nicola Peltz-Beckham, 30, aren’t expected to be there though. It comes amid rumours of tension within the family in recent months, with it previously reported that having everyone together for his milestone birthday would be the “best” present for father David.

It’s now claimed that David is “heartbroken”. A source told the Sun last night that the former Manchester United player had hoped Brooklyn would “change his mind” after being told “a while ago” that he wouldn’t attend the party.

The source told the outlet: “David is heartbroken but putting a brave face on it.” They said tonight is “all about celebration and love,” before adding ahead of the party: “Brooklyn actually informed his parents a while ago that he and his wife, Nicola, would not be attending but, of course, David and Victoria desperately hoped he would change his mind.”

“It’s a dagger to the heart that he hasn’t attended a single one of David’s 50th celebrations – and hurts the whole family including the grandparents and siblings,” the source said. They added that everyone “loves him dearly” though.

The source, who described Brooklyn as a “really sweet boy,” continued: “They just hope things can be patched up soon.” The source then assured that guests at the party are “doing all they can” to give David a “magical” night in the meantime.

Brooklyn’s apparent absence comes amid rumours of tension in his family. Him and Nicola – who reportedly didn’t publicly receive well wishes from his parents for their wedding anniversary last month – are said to have been absent from an early party for David’s birthday weeks ago.

It’s understood that the couple then did not publicly celebrate Victoria’s birthday two weeks ago. Brooklyn and Nicola appeared to have been absent from celebrations for the occasion too, though his sibling Cruz also didn’t feature in photos shared by their mother of the festivities at the time.

As previously reported, Brooklyn didn’t publicly acknowledge his father David’s 50th birthday earlier this week. Ahead of the party this week, he had been spotted in the UK recently, sparking speculation that he could be at the event.

The apparent snubs on social media and at parties come amid reports that Brooklyn and his brother Romeo aren’t on speaking terms. It’s been claimed that there’s been some tension over Romeo’s relationship with Kim Turnbull.

It had been suggested that Brooklyn was once romantically linked to Kim. Hello magazine however more recently reported that, amid commentary on social media, Cruz wrote in a now-deleted comment that the pair “never dated”.

TMZ previously claimed that any past romance was “water under the bridge”. The outlet reported that sources said the issue was over Brooklyn and his wife Nicola questioning whether Kim has “the right intentions” for dating Romeo.
