David Beckham has revealed the painful physical toll his football career took on his body, sharing the extent of his injuries in a new interview.
David Beckham has opened up about the serious injuries he sustained throughout his illustrious football career, revealing a catalogue of physical damage in a candid new interview. The 49-year-old former footballer stripped off to discuss the toll the sport has taken on his body, including breaking his back and a wrist injury that continues to cause him problems.
Beckham, who enjoyed a successful career playing for top clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, and LA Galaxy, spoke about the moment he broke his back while playing in Los Angeles. Recalling the incident, he said: “I actually broke my back. I was living in LA and cracked my spine. I had pain after a game, I went for a scan and couldn’t find anything wrong with it. I was insisting there was something not right there – I could feel it. So, they injected me with dye, and then it came up. It was a bad one…”
Speaking to Men’s Health UK, Beckham explained how he had persistent pain after a game, but it wasn’t until further investigation that the severity of the injury became clear. Speaking further about his injuries, Beckham revealed another significant problem he’s dealt with over the years: a wrist injury he sustained while playing in South Africa. “I broke my wrist in South Africa and I still get issues with it,” he admitted. “I was told that it was a dissolvable screw. It turns out it wasn’t, so I’ve still got it.”
In the interview, Beckham opened up about how these injuries still affect him today, despite having retired from football years ago. The star admitted that although he has adjusted to life after football, his body is a constant reminder of the intense physical demands of the sport.
Nowadays Beckham spends a lot of time training with his wife, Victoria. The pair frequently share workout selfies together. In October, The iconic Spice Girls star displayed her flexibility in a snap flexing her muscles as she posed for social media. Victoria wore grey leggings teamed with a grey crop top with white trainers and white ankle socks for her gym session.
With her hair scraped back into a sleek bun she added fingerless weightlifting gloves to the look and sweatbands on her wrists. David meanwhile stood to the side of his wife in co-ordinating grey shorts and a white t-shirt. Victoria captioned the image writing: “When your gym look inspires your husband.” The fashion designer appeared to be alluding to them wearing matching colours for their collaborative workout session. David and Victoria have been married for 26 years. The couple has four children: Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 13.
