David Dickinson is a much-loved antiques expert who has been a familiar face on our screens for years. But away from the cameras, he has a very different life

Presenter David Dickinson isn’t the only famous face in his family as his grandchildren have also been on TV.

The cherished ex-presenter of Bargain Hunt and a staple on British television, has enjoyed a long career gracing our screens with shows like ITV’s Dickinson’s Real Deal, The David Dickinson Show, and David Dickinson’s Name Your Price. He’s blissfully wed to international cabaret sensation Lorne Lesley, and their love story began in a 60s nightclub, culminating in marriage in 1968.

On his website, Dickinson gushes about his wife: “Lorne is half African and half Welsh and hails from Tiger Bay, just like Shirley Bassey. Lorne is very glamorous, a lovely striking lady, and she has more talent in her little finger than I have in my whole body!” The couple have two children, Robert and Katrina, whom Dickinson adopted from Lesley’s previous marriage.

Now in their fifties, Robert and Katrina have given Dickinson and Lesley the joy of being grandparents to four grandchildren – Aim’ee, Lauren, Myles, and Finley. The boys even had their moment in the limelight on ITV’s Big Star’s Little Star. Myles further made waves by appearing on Dragons’ Den, where he caused a stir among the Dragons with his business pitch.

Sara Davies, intrigued by his entrepreneurial spirit, questioned if it was due to upbringing or genetics, leading Myles to reveal that his dad “runs a business” and his grandad is “on TV”, reports the Express. The dragons were intrigued when they learned about the entrepreneur’s connection to David Dickinson, leading to Myles revealing his plan to launch bespoke credit cards.

Steven Bartlett couldn’t hide his enthusiasm, admitting: “I’m a sucker for this stuff. I am the target customer for this kind of product because whenever Revolut pop up with any kind of personalised card, I’ve bought all of them.” Peter Jones was confident he could take Myles’ business “to a huge level” and offered to match the asking price for 35 percent equity.

Touker Suleyman reassured Myles, saying: “Time is what you’re going to get for me.” Peter Jones boasted: “Nobody has mentored, helped and assisted more young people in Britain than me.” But it was Steven who clinched the deal by offering: “I’m going to go one step further, you can come and work in my office with me and my team. I am the guy for this business.”

Steven proposed £35,000 for a 35 percent stake as well, which Myles eagerly accepted, excited to start their new venture together. Dickinson also has a connection to a famous face as he is related to none other than Jack Whitehall. The comedian discovered their familial link while attending a funeral.

While not blood-related, Jack is second cousins with David’s wife of more than 50 years, Lorné. Revealing the unexpected connection during a 2020 appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, a visibly baffled Jack shared: “[David is] married to one of my second cousins. I saw him at a funeral, over the other side of the grave.”
