Wynne Evans was absent from his BBC Wales radio show after apologising for his ‘inappropriate and unacceptable’ remark during the Strictly Come Dancing live tour launch
Under fire Wynne Evans sat out his BBC role following the weekend Strictly scandal, it has been announced.
The Welsh opera singer was caught on camera at an event during the tour’s launch in Birmingham using derogatory language. Evans was recorded making an inappropriate sexual comment to Janette Manrara when she walked over to a group of the 2024 series’ stars.
He sang out: “Go Compare,” before adding: “Not too close to Jamie.” He then used the hugely demeaning term “spit roast” in reference to a lewd sexual act. In a statement, Evans told the Mirror: “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable, for which I sincerely apologise.”
He was absent from his BBC Wales radio show this morning after apologising for an “inappropriate and unacceptable” remark during the live tour launch. The station has said that the 53-year-old is “taking some time off from his show”.
Comedian Robin Windsor, who has been regularly sitting in for him while he was with Strictly, fronted the programme after the singer performed in Glasgow last night. He will continue to present in Evans’ place during his absence.
Wynne, also himself at the centre of drama after a “vulgar” joke he reportedly made behind-the-scenes was “leaked”, recently pulled out of the Strictly tour’s stint in Glasgow due to an ankle injury. He sung to the crowd last night in Scotland and shared images of his bruised ankle in a story on Instagram.
“Wynne was hauled over the coals for his unacceptable language and was told in no uncertain terms that it would not be tolerated and this was his final warning. It was a proper dressing-down,” an insider told MailOnline. “Wynne also gave a grovelling apology to Janette and her furious husband, Aljaz.”
Just a few weeks ago, Evans faced backlash over an “inside joke” with dance partner Katya where he placed his hand on her waist before seeming to move it closer to her stomach. Katya appeared to brush away his hand as the pair stood side by side.
Despite the latest scandal, Evans appears to have the support of Katya as she shared a photo with the scandal-hit star. She re-shared a post, orginally posted by Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri as she, Tasha, Wynne and Jamie Borthwick sat in a bar, relaxing. Captioning her re-share, Katya penned: “Tour fam,” along with a red-heart emoji.
