Two women, who are on a mission to help people get their homes and lives organised, insist that you have a good clear out before 2025 to get your life in order – and getting rid of these items helps

It’s that time of year when a good clear out might be in order. With Christmas just gone, our homes are brimming with new gifts, tins of chocolates and family games.

However, the clutter might feel overwhelming. So, to kick off 2025 on a positive note, it could be time to get organised.

Best friends Ellie and Lucy, who met at university, founded their own organising business, Morganised. They’re on a mission to help people declutter their homes and lives. On their Instagram page, they recently urged: “Don’t be static, make decluttering a priority for you and your family in 2025”.

The duo pointed out that the average person wastes 12 days a year searching for items in their home. Moreover, 80% of the things we keep are never used, leading to 47% of couples arguing about clutter every week. The organising gurus also revealed: “You are 77% more likely to be overweight if you live in a really cluttered home.”

To tackle this, they’ve shared a list of 24 things to declutter before 2024 ends. They added: “Head into 2025 feeling lighter with these 24 easy items to remove from your home before the year is out.”

The decluttering experts shared their top tips for a tidier home – advising people to ditch socks with holes, expired toiletries, chipped crockery, threadbare towels, already-read books, ill-fitting clothes, uncomfortable footwear, and spent candles. They also recommend purging old cleaning products, dead batteries, broken hangers, and wilted plants.

For parents, it’s time to let go of outgrown toys and children’s artwork. The duo, who run @morganised_ltd on Instagram, suggest passing on unused old phones and deleting redundant apps.

Additionally, they advise updating tatty bed linen and disposing of unnecessary paperwork, as well as selling or giving away any Christmas decorations that won’t make the cut next year.

People were quick to praise the advice in the comments section of the video, with one person saying: “Yes, much needed.”

Another commented: “Yes, I’ve started putting on socks and if theres any faults they go in the bin, same with anything else. None of those lower standards anymore in 2025.”

Meanwhile, a third chimed in: “And stop buying new stuff!” Sound advice, if you ask us!
