Lacey Lake was discovered dead in a caravan in Tamerton Foliot, near Plymouth, days after she went into a taxi – a grey Mercedes – with her phone’s location services “suddenly turned off”
Relatives of a young woman found dead in a caravan after she went missing are desperate to return her “home” so she can be buried alongside her mother.
A body was discovered on Tuesday in the search for Lacey Lake, 24, who was last seen in a grey Mercedes before her location services were “suddenly turned off”. Police say the death is being treated as “unexplained” but it is not believed to be suspicious.
Emotional tributes have been paid to Lacey, including by relatives who are determined she can be laid to rest with her mother Samantha in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, who died when Lucy was a young child.
Lacey lived in Plymouth, Devon, nearly 300 miles from Doncaster, but loved ones say it is crucial she is reunited with Samantha, and have created a GoFundMe page to support their appeal.
“We are putting up this GoFundMe to help my friend Sara and her family to get her niece Lacey back home to Doncaster so she can be laid to rest with her mum who sadly passed away when Lacey was only a very young girl. Her body has sadly been found after being reported missing down Plymouth where she lived,” the appeal’s organiser, Lisa Gray, wrote.
Lacey was found dead in a caravan in Tamerton Foliot, near Plymouth, on Tuesday. She was last seen getting into the taxi on Friday, according to our sister title Plymouth Live.
Lisa added: “She needs to come home back to Doncaster to be laid to rest in the arms of her mum Samantha who sadly died when the children were only very young. The cost alone to get her body back to Doncaster isn’t going to be cheap and also to make arrangements for her funeral.”
More than £2,000 has been raised so far, but the target is £3,500. Donations flooded in on Wednesday, many of which are thought to have been from strangers.
Speaking on Tuesday, a Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Police searching for a missing woman from Plymouth have today, 7 January, located the body of a female. Officers were called around 1.20pm following concerns for the welfare of the woman in Linton Close, Tamerton Foliot.
“Paramedics attended but the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. The death is being treated as unexplained although not currently believed suspicious.
“The family of 24-year-old Lacey Lake who was reported missing on Monday 6 January have been informed. Formal identification has yet to be carried out.”
