A number of high-protein foods have been identified as being the key to experiencing weight loss success, with one popular sweet treat making the list – and it’s perfect for breakfast
Diet gurus have revealed a list of protein-packed foods that can aid in weight loss, including a beloved sweet delight.
Shedding those extra pounds can be a tough task, and keeping the motivation alive while altering your diet can be even more daunting. However, filling your fridge with the right foods can make a world of difference. Experts from Food Label Maker have pinpointed protein-rich foods as key to not only staving off hunger but also maintaining lean muscle mass – a crucial element for sustainable weight loss success.
Protein aids in keeping you fuller for longer, curbing the urge to overindulge while also supporting muscle retention, which is vital for maintaining a healthy metabolism during calorie reduction. This research is grounded on a recent article published by Obesity Science and Practice.
One such food that could lend a hand is Greek yoghurt. This creamy, tangy and adaptable treat is loaded with protein, providing around 10g of protein per 100g.
It can easily be transformed into a sweet treat due to its compatibility with a range of sweet fruits and ingredients like berries and honey. It also boasts probiotics, which enhance gut health and digestion. This combination can assist you in sticking to your weight loss regime while adding diversity to your meals.
Greek yoghurt has long been a favourite among fitness buffs and health enthusiasts. TikTok creator Thomas Foster recently detailed its benefits in a viral video, dubbing it a “superfood” he believes “everybody should be eating”.
Thomas elaborated: “What’s so great about Greek yoghurt is it’s super rich in protein. Just a seven ounce serving (200g) of Greek yoghurt provides 20 grams of protein. Not only that, but Greek yoghurt is rich in essential vitamins and minerals including B12, selenium and zinc, which all play an important role in supporting your health.”
The TikTokker emphasised its gut health benefits before suggesting ways to improve its taste for those who find its tangy flavour off-putting: “For those of you who still aren’t convinced just because of the flavour of Greek yoghurt, here’s some things you could do to make it taste better. Add some strawberries – strawberries are super sweet and they enhance the flavour a lot.
“Another thing I like to add to enhance the flavour is honey. Not only is honey super delicious but it’s also a great antioxidant. So, if you’re looking for a tasty, high-protein, healthy snack, try some Greek yoghurt.”
Users flooded the comments with their top breakfast picks. One enthusiast shared, “Plain/non-fat, honey, honey granola, and banana. Perfect breakfast,” while another chimed in supporting the creator’s top-ups with: “Strawberries give it unbelievable flavour”.
Another user highlighted the satiating quality of Greek yoghurt: “Greek yoghurt also makes me feel full for a long time so I eat less.” Curiosity arose amid the discussion with one asking, “Does it make you gain weight?” A knowledgeable response came back: “If it has no sugar and it’s plain then no. It may help you lose weight, actually.”
According to Food Label Maker’s study, other foods that pack a protein punch include eggs, chicken breast, tofu, salmon, cottage cheese, lentils and chickpeas, chia seeds, edamame, and hemp seeds.
Of the study, Maria AbiHanna of Food Label Maker commented: “Animal proteins typically offer more complete protein per gram, but plant-based options like chia seeds and edamame provide added fibre and essential nutrients. A balanced diet that includes both types of protein is ideal for weight loss, helping to promote fullness, muscle preservation, and overall health.”
