Disney+ has announced it’s upping the price of select memberships, but telly fans still have time to secure a discount before the changes

Disney+ has announced it is to raise the prices of select membership tiers, but there’s a way to avoid the increase and secure the discount for a year. The streamer from the House of Mouse offers a range of membership options to suit different needs and budgets, with customers able to bag a big saving if they sign up for one of its annual plans.

As well as its monthly subscriptions – which now start at £4.99 for the Standard with Ads plan – Disney+ offers a year of its ad-free Standard and Premium plans that give members 12 months for the price of 10 compared to paying monthly. But later this month, Disney+ is set to increase the price of its annual Standard plan.

The annual Standard plan currently costs £79.90, which saves £15.98 compared to paying monthly at £7.99. Disney+ has confirmed that from October 17, the price of the annual plan will increase to £89.90, reducing the saving to £5.98.

Telly fans can still lock in the cheaper rate by signing up by October 16, securing the current £79.90 subscription for a whole year of streaming the biggest titles from the likes of Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar and much more. Disney+ has not announced any changes to its Premium plan, which currently costs £109.90 for a year and comes with a host of extra benefits including higher video quality up to 4K UHD and HDR, Dolby Atmos support, the ability to stream on four devices simultaneously and download titles for offline viewing.

Disney+ offers members 12 months for the price of 10 if they sign up for an annual Standard or Premium plan.

This allows you to lock in the current rate for a year and avoid the upcoming price increase.

Signing up for a year of the Premium plan saves £21.98 compared to paying monthly at £10.99 – the biggest saving Disney+ currently offers. As the price increase may be off-putting to new customers, it’s always worth shopping around as other streaming platforms offer enticing money-saving deals and free trials.

One such streamer is Amazon’s Prime Video, which offers a yearly subscription for £95 – £5.10 more than the new rate of Disney’s Standard plan. But Amazon Prime members also get a lot more bang for their buck as Prime comes with a host of other benefits.

As well as the ability to stream exclusive shows like The Boys, The Rings of Power and hit films like Challengers, Prime members also get next day delivery on eligible Amazon purchases, free streaming on Amazon Music Prime, Deliveroo Plus and free delivery on HelloFresh orders for a year. Amazon is also gearing up for its latest site-wide sales event, Prime Big Deal Days, on October 8-9, which will see prices slashed on thousands of items in deals that are exclusive to Prime members.

Prime members can expect to bag big savings on everything from tech to homeware, from brands including Shark, Microsoft, Braun, Philips and Ghd, as well as up to 50 percent off Amazon’s Echo devices. Bargain hunters can also get in on the Deal Days action with an Amazon Prime 30-day free trial, allowing them to sample everything Prime has to offer for a month before making a long-term commitment.

Sky also regularly refreshes its deals and has just reduced its packed TV and broadband plan by £12 a month – its ‘lowest ever price’. Usually priced at £52, the Sky Stream, Sky TV, Netflix and Full Fibre 300 bundle is now down to £40, saving members £288 over the 24-month term and including more than 200 TV channels, a free Netflix subscription and superfast fibre broadband with speeds up to 300 Mbps.
