It looks like Sonic the Hedgehog 3 shares something in common with the first two films

Sonic the Hedgehog 3: Keanu Reeves joins the cast in trailer

*Warning – this article contains spoilers for Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2*

As the third film in the Sonic the Hedgehog live-action film franchise gets set to land in cinemas, fans will wonder if the latest release has a post-credits scene.

In their latest adventure on the big screen, Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails reunite to battle a new rival – a mysterious enemy with powers unlike anything they’ve faced before. An ultimate life force known as Shadow and voiced in the film by Keanu Reeves. The group also face off once again with Jim Carrey’s Dr Robotnik.

However, cinemagoers will be keen to find out if this is the final entry in the series or if there is anything to suggest there could be more on the way. Here’s everything you need to know about a possible post-credits scene and what it could mean.

Be warned below are spoilers for Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 as well as discussing potential surprises following the third film.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has a post-credits scene. Just like the first two films, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 seems that it will also hint events of a potential follow-up. In fact, its existence somehow leaked online a number of days before the film’s official release in cinemas.

The first film’s post-credits moment introduced the character of Tails, as Sonic’s ally declared that they ‘found him’ and rushed off to be reunited with his friend.

In the sequel, as military personnel commented on the mess Robotnik had made during the events of the film, it’s said they ‘discovered something’ that was hidden for 50 years. It was revealed to be the location of Shadow himself.

So it should be no surprise that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will pose a similar teaser. Footage illicitly posted online confirmed that the sequence is quite substantial and should be an exciting addition for long-time fans of the Sonic games.

We won’t state out specifically here who or what turns up in the final moments of the third film but it looks like it follows a similar suit of introducing new possible allies and enemies for Sonic in a fourth outing.

Fans who have already watched the scene have discussed their excitement over what it could mean for the future. Discussing it on Reddit, one person said: “Post credit? Felt like a short film. Love it.”

Another replied: “I’m happy for the fanbase, as this is clearly what most people wanted.” While a third added: “This looks epic as the last movies’ post credit scenes.”

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is in cinemas December 20.
