A professional dog trainer has shared the three breeds he’d choose to work with, and he says these ‘kings’ of breeds are the perfect companions and are very protective
A professional dog trainer has revealed the breeds he’d choose if he could only ever work with three of them again. Will Atherton took to TikTok to explain why he enjoyed working with each of the pooches.
Whilst some are more straightforward to train, others are renowned for their loyalty and intelligence. In his video, the British canine expert said: “If I could only ever choose three breeds to work with or own in the future, these are the one’s I would choose.”
1. Cane Corso
The Cane Corso is a large and powerful Italian breed of dog that falls under the mastiff category. It is recognised for its muscular build, intelligence, and protective nature.
The breed has a strong and imposing presence, often making it a popular choice for those seeking a guardian or working dog. Historically they’ve been used in jobs like guarding property, hunting and doing farm work.
But they’re also popular with families because they are affectionate and protective. Will said: “Number one would be the Cane Corso. I absolutely love mastiff breeds. Of all the mastiff breeds, for me I would be torn between the English mastiff and the Cane Corso.
“If I had to choose, I would probably go Cane Corso for slightly less of an issue around common health issues and slightly increased athleticism. It just lets them enjoy walks more.”
If you are thinking of getting a Cane Corso, it is important to do your research and put the work in. The dogs require lots of training and socialisation from an early age. Some also say they’re best with experienced dog owners who have dealt with larger breeds before.
2. German Shepherd
As the name suggests, a German shepherd is a breed of large working dog that originated in Germany. Known for their intelligence, strength, and versatility, they are one of the most popular and recognisable dog breeds in the world.
Will is a big fan of them – and said: “Next up would be the German shepherd – one of the best dog breeds to train and one of the best all-around dog breeds. They cans turn their hand to absolutely anything.
“Downside for them is they are prone to be quite excessive barkers, so bear this is mind if you’re not ready for that. That could become an issue for you in the future.”
The brilliant breeds are extremely trainable and shine in numerous roles, including police work, military duties, search and rescue operations, plus service and therapy positions.
Thanks to their devoted, assured and brave nature, they also make excellent family pets when properly trained.
3. Labrador retrievers
Finally, Will gushed about the breed he believes beats all others. He added: “Last but not least – and this is the reality if I could only ever choose one breed it would be the Labrador retriever. For me, the king of all dog breeds.”
So why does he love them so much?
The Labrador retriever is a well-loved breed of dog, famed for its friendly and outgoing personality.
Hailing from Newfoundland, Canada, the breed was originally developed to aid fishermen in retrieving nets and catching fish that had slipped away. Labradors are celebrated for their intelligence, loyalty, and eagerness to please, making them superb companions and service dogs.
