Taylor Swift was absent for the Kansas City Chiefs’ win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday as boyfriend Travis Kelce struggled, but she has already received the seal of approval from his mum

Despite the swirling rumours about their relationship, Donna Kelce has openly shown her support for Taylor Swift.

The Kansas City Chiefs maintained their winning streak with a tight 22-17 win against the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday, but it wasn’t Travis Kelce’s most memorable performance. The star tight end had a tough time on the field and appeared “hunched and subdued” throughout the match, body language expert Judi James observed.

Swift, who is usually seen cheering on her partner, was conspicuously absent from the game, sparking further gossip about the state of their relationship following their affectionate appearance at the US Open final and the surfacing of an alleged contract about their romance on social media.

However, Travis’ mother has given her seal of approval to Swift. During the Chiefs’ season opener against the Baltimore Ravens, Donna was spotted sporting a black Chiefs cap with special embroidery honouring the couple.

The cap boasted the team’s emblem alongside Kelce’s number 87, as well as holly and white cosmos decorations symbols representing the birth months of Travis and Taylor.

Donna’s social media share of herself donning a custom-made hat caught the attention of its creator Alexa Pearlmutter, who took to TikTok exclaiming: “So honored to have made this! My general idea was to incorporate matching florals to pair with the red/white asymmetrical logo and work @Travis Kelces #87 into the design.”

One savvy fan speculated in a comment: “Travis and Taylor’s birth flowers? ? ? ” In response, Lexi, the artist, teased with a winking emoji on TikTok. The video also featured Donna’s Instagram selfie sporting the hat and crediting Lexi’s handiwork.

However, absent from the Chiefs’ sidelines was Taylor Swift, despite previously being a fixture due to her relationship with Kelce and aligning her attendance with her The Eras Tour schedule. Instead, she chose the buzz of New York City, where she was spotted painting the town red with GiGi Hadid.

While Swift enjoyed the Big Apple, Kelce might be hopeful for her return to support as he prepares for the Chiefs’ next clash against the Los Angeles Chargers. After a subdued start to the season, Kelce remains unruffled, reflecting on the New Heights podcast about his performance against the Cincinnati Bengals in week two: “There’s a lot of things that have to go right for anyone to get the ball. These past two games it hasn’t gone that way for me. That’s football, man.”

“I’m not going to sit here and get frustrated. I used to get really, really […] off and almost lose my cool a lot of the time from not having that success, knowing I demand that out of myself and I just like to play the game to such a high level of accountability that it’s tough for me to deal with being mediocre or having stats that represent that.”
