Liverpool have enjoyed a bright start to life under Arne Slot and one of Jurgen Klopp’s favourites remains a key member of the Reds squad having been backed as one of the best in the world

Liverpool star Andy Robertson has again been hailed as the “best left-back in the world” THREE YEARS after Jurgen Klopp claimed the same.

The Scottish left-back has been a key member of the squad since arriving at Anfield in 2017. He signed for the Reds from Hull and has since made over 300 appearances for the club.

In that time, Robertson has helped Liverpool to the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and many more trophies. The 76-time Scottish international has remained a key member of the squad under Arne Slot.

He has appeared in all of the opening five league games of the season having started every game under Slot. And now, he has been hailed as the best left-back in the world by ex-Southampton star Romain Perraud.

He played against the Scottish defender during his time at St Mary’s and claims he has been an inspiration ever since. Speaking to El Correo de Andalucia, Perraud said: “For the last four or five years, I think the best left-back in the world is Robertson from Liverpool. When I have time, it’s important for me to see his ability to play in this position. He’s a very, very good example.”

It is not the first time that Robertson has been hailed as the best left-back in the world. Ex-Liverpool boss Klopp also made that suggestion back in 2021 as he faced calls to start Kostas Tsimikas.

“Kostas is very close – he has a lot of quality – he can push Andy Robertson,” Klopp said. “But Andy Robertson in my eyes is the best left-back in the world but it’s good we have the options to give Robbo a rest in moments – even when he doesn’t like it.”

Meanwhile, former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique also made a similar claim that year. He said: “He has surprised everyone. When he arrived at Liverpool it was hard in a big club after coming from Hull City.

“Alberto Moreno was starting ahead of him but for me, he has been the best left-back in the world for the last few years. I know everyone talks about [Alphonso] Davies from Bayern Munich, but if you talk about consistency and level of performance, this guy is unbelievable.

“Liverpool play about every three days and this guy always gives you a good performance and for me, he is the player of the season for Liverpool.”

While Robertson has regularly earned praise for his Liverpool performances, he might earn a rest this week. The Reds take on West Ham at Anfield in the third round of the Carabao Cup, a game that Tsimikas could potentially start.
