Eamonn Holmes has broken his silence on social media for the first time since splitting with his wife Ruth Langsford, after the TV presenter shared some devastating news
Eamonn Holmes, the former This Morning host, has reached out to his soon-to-be ex-wife and co-host Ruth Langsford for the first time publicly since their split. The famous couple announced their intention to divorce in June and have since gone their separate ways, with a quick resolution expected in the coming year.
After nearly six months of silence following their separation, 65-year-old Holmes, who has moved on to a new relationship, joined thousands of others in liking one of Langsford’s recent posts about her hopes for a family Christmas. She took to Instagram to share news of a tragic fall that had hospitalised her 93-year-old mother.
Alongside a picture of her mother’s clasped hands and their half-completed crossword, Langsford wrote: “Hospital visit….thank you all so much for your lovely messages and well wishes for my darling Mum. She’ll be in hospital for a bit longer yet, but she’s in pretty good spirits considering and I hope she’ll be home for Christmas.”
Holmes liked his ex’s post, joining celebrities like Cat Deeley and Loose Women’s Nadia Sawalha in wishing his former mother-in-law a speedy recovery.
Ruth Langsford shared a heartfelt update with her over 1 million followers about her mother Joan’s health after a fall in December that fractured her pelvis, which disrupted their Christmas plans.
“No dancing in my kitchen peeling the veg for my darling Mum this Christmas,” Langsford said on Instagram, revealing her mum’s condition.
“She’s ok…ish, no surgery required thank goodness but she needs rest and time to heal now. She’s in hospital at the moment but I’m hoping to get her home soon.”
Amidst the personal challenges, Ruth and her estranged husband Eamonn Holmes are reportedly eager to finalise their divorce swiftly and part ways with their £3.5 million home, reports the Daily Mail.
While Ruth wishes to remain in the marital home for stability, Eamonn is looking to move on and has already started a new chapter with counsellor Katie Alexander, who is 22 years his junior. Insiders claim, “Ruth is keen to stay in their marital home as it is where she is settled, Eamonn on the other hand wants to get out and make a fresh start.”
The source added, “They aren’t dragging their heels and want this settled and done as quickly as possible.”
However, with her mum hospitalised due to a severe injury, it seems Langsford has gained some perspective. She shared on social media: “This time last year she fell and broke her hip but recovered well…she’s a very strong woman so I’m sure she’ll recover from this too.
“Put’s life and what’s important into perspective eh? Happy Christmas! “.
