Brits travelling with EasyJet were hit by travel disruption after a lorry crashed into a plane at Orly Airport in Paris. Six flights are said to be impacted by the incident
Brits travelling to Europe have been hit by travel chaos after a lorry crashed into a plane at a busy airport.
The EasyJet aircraft was struck at Orly Airport in Paris, leading to delays for those travelling on Monday. Shocking images showed the aftermath of the crash, with the windscreen of the truck pictured with shattered glass.
The yellow vehicle smashed into the 15-year-old twin engine Airbus A320 in the early hours of this morning. The aircraft’s fuselage appeared to have sustained serious damage.
Luckily, the incident happened during a night stop, meaning no passengers were onboard.
A spokesperson for the airline told The Mirror: “easyJet can confirm that an airport vehicle struck an aircraft at Paris Orly airport while it was parked overnight and no passengers were onboard. The aircraft will undergo the required inspections and repairs in line with manufacturer instructions.”
Last week, a vehicle crashed into a railway bridge close to Gatwick Airport, sparking travel mayhem for dozens of passengers on March 25.
Gatwick Express confirmed that a road vehicle had collided with a railway bridge in Earlswood, which meant some lines are blocked. Disruption, including delays and cancellations, between Gatwick Airport and East Croydon lasted for several hours.
A National Rail spokesperson said in a statement on its website: “Network Rail will be sending engineers as quickly as possible to check the bridge for any damage, and if it’s safe to do so, the route will be reopened.
“If you see a vehicle hitting a bridge, or you think a bridge has been damaged, please report it using the phone number on the identification plate fixed to the bridge. If no plate is provided, please report it to the police by calling 999.”
