An easyJet co-pilot has reportedly been rushed to hospital after fainting on a flight from London to Lisbon – the plane was carrying nearly 200 passengers at the time of the incident

An easyJet flight was sent into a frenzy after the co-pilot in the aircraft fainted mid-air.

Chaos erupted on the flight which had departed from a London airport, which is thought to have been Luton. 193 passengers were onboard during the medical episode. A red alert was issued in response to the incident.

According to local media, the pilot sucessfully landed the aircraft without facing any issues. Paramedics were already on the runway when they arrived. The co-pilot was rushed to Lisbon’s Santa Maria Hospital.

However, this isn’t the first time that staff have experienced a decline in health whilst working on a plane. Last year December, a Ryanair aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing at Faro Airport after the pilot became ill. The aircraft was heading from London Stansted to Morocco.

The pilot told passengers before landing that he wasn’t feeling well and the diversion triggered a “red alert” at the airport. A spokesman for Ryanair said at the time: “This flight from Stansted to Morocco diverted to Faro when one of the pilots became ill. The aircraft landed normally, and passengers were transferred to an alternative aircraft operated by another crew before continuing to Morocco.“
