The Easyjet flight had taken off from Southend Airport in Essex and was heading to Malaga in Spain, but had to be diverted to Gatwick, where it was met by a fleet of fire engines

An Easyjet flight bound for Malaga had to be diverted to Gatwick earlier today.

Images from the flight-tracking website, Flightradar, showed the moment the Airbus A320 touched down at the London air travel hub and was surrounded by a fleet of fire engines.

The plane, with the EJU13GB flight number, had initially taken off from Southend Airport in Essex and was due to touch down in Malaga, Spain later today. An as yet unidentified issue occurred during the flight and it was forced to divert to London Gatwick.

The plane was only on the ground for a few minutes before the issue was resolved and it was allowed to continue with its journey, reports say.
