Ed Sheeran performed for the England squad at their Euro 2024 training camp on Monday, a day after watching the Three Lions’ 2-1 extra-time win over Slovakia

Ed Sheeran has given the England football team a private gig.

The 33 year old pop sensation was spotted in the crowd during England’s thrilling extra-time 2-1 victory over Slovakia at Euro 2024 in Germany on Sunday.

The following day, manager Gareth Southgate invited him to join the squad’s light recovery session.

Social media was abuzz with video clips of players, including skipper Harry Kane and standout player Jude Bellingham, enjoying Ed’s rendition of ‘The A Team’ at the Spa and Golf Resort Weimarer Land, where the team are based.

This isn’t the first time Ed has performed for the England squad; he also did so during Euro 2020, while Robbie Williams popped in for a visit during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker has previously cited a 2021 barbecue, where he serenaded the England team, as one of his career highlights. Chatting with Peter Crouch on the ‘Crouchy’s Year-Late Euros’ show, he reminisced: “At the end of the night, we’re in a circle, all hands around.”

“For me, just as an English lad, being in the centre of the England team, it was really great. I’ve had amazing moments in my life, but I don’t think there’s many moments that will top that.”

Before the tournament kicked off, Prince William – who is the president of the Football Association (FA) – visited the squad at their St George’s Park training camp in Burton on Trent, Staffordshire, where he shared some advice from his youngest son.

Prince William shared a humorous anecdote on seeking advice from his and Catherine, Princess of Wales ‘ three children, Princes George, Louis and Princess Charlotte, for the England football squad. The Duke laughed as he recounted, “I was on the school run this morning with the children and I said, ‘What shall I say to the England team, I’m seeing them today?”

Far from profound advice, the best suggestion involved doubling their food intake leading William to jest, “So I then had visions of you running around, massive great tummies and loads of stitches on the pitch.” He concluded, “So I think maybe take my youngest’s advice with a pinch of salt, particularly around the physio team.”
