Former Emmerdale legend Gemma Oaten has opened up on her secret health battle as she revealed she suffered a horrific botched dental surgery before getting her perfect smile
An Emmerdale star has revealed they have lost all of their top teeth after horrific botched surgery.
Gemma Oaten, 40, opened up on her secret ordeal that she had wanted to keep secret from fans. The actress, who is known for playing Rachel Breckle in the hit ITV soap, decided to share her “deeply personal experience” that started almost three years ago. She posted a series of photos of the correction of her painful journey along with a lengthy caption.
The TV star wrote: “It’s taken me a while to share this, but I feel it’s time to open up about a deeply personal experience. Two and a half years ago, I underwent dental surgery that included losing all my top teeth, a consequence of the years I battled an eating disorder & a dentist who put crowns on top of rotting teeth without telling me…
“Many will remember I had the surgery for the implant bridge in July 16th 2022, but for any new followers I wanted to share & update. This journey has been challenging, & while I’ve spoken about it before, sharing this part of my story feels right at this time. I’m at peace with it. I hope to encourage others who may be facing similar struggles. Remember, it’s okay to seek help & take steps toward healing.”
Gemma added: “To anyone who’s struggling, you’re not alone. It’s okay to seek the help you deserve. Healing is a journey, & every small step counts. We must break the silence around these topics.” The soap actress showed off her perfect teeth now as she revealed her dazzling white teeth.
Gemma played Rachel Breckle in the ITV soap from 2011 to 2015 and recently started working as a presenter for BBC’s Radio Humberside. She joined the station in May, yet after only a few months on air, she’s ‘finished her stint’ at the station, telling her fans on Instagram she “cried” on her last day.
The presenter penned: “What a joy it’s been to join [BBC Radio Humberside]. My last show covering yesterday was a beaut experience, I cried (I’ll explain why soon, so much to say & not enough characters to say it – usual for me). I started with BBC Humberside in May & can’t express how much this job has meant… no actually… means to me! This isn’t the end, it’s just the beginning.”
Clarifying she has not “quit” the role, she later added: “I just want to clarify that I haven’t “sensationally quit” BBC radio Humberside, as is in a lot of the news outlets today, nor did I cry leaving. I meant in my post that I had finished my stint covering for the aces Carla Green, not that I was leaving. And I cried because an old friend emailed in with a gorgeous message. To be fair though, you know how soft I am & emotional I can get! Fear not, I’m not going anywhere.”
