Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola revealed on Tuesday that Erling Haaland could miss the remainder of the domestic season after injuring his ankle against Bournemouth

Erling Haaland has taken to Instagram after being ruled out for up to seven weeks with an ankle injury, declaring: “I’ll be back.” The Manchester City striker hurt himself on Sunday as the Premier League champions beat Bournemouth to advance to the FA Cup semi-finals.

The Norwegian, 24, was left limping heavily after his ankle was caught underneath the body of Cherries midfielder, Lewis Cook, following a challenge. And despite his best attempts to continue, Haaland was substituted minutes later with his replacement, Omar Marmoush, plundering the winning goal.

Fears over Haaland’s injury were heightened when the former Borussia Dortmund man was later seen leaving the Vitality Stadium on crutches while wearing a protective boot.

Pep Guardiola then confirmed in his pre-match press conference before City’s match with Leicester that Haaland would likely miss the majority of the team’s remaining games.

But Haaland seemed to be in good spirits in his social media post, which featured an image of him holding his crutches up in the air. His three-word message was accompanied by a flex emoji as he begins the road to recovery.

Speaking on Tuesday, Guardiola confirmed that Haaland would see a specialist shortly. But the mooted recovery timeframe could mean he misses out on the remainder of the domestic season.

Guardiola said: “Sometimes these kind of things happen. With all the injuries we’ve had this season, we’re so sorry for them and for Erling as well. The doctors told me it will be between five and seven weeks. We don’t have another player with his specific skills or qualities, we know that, so we have to adapt.”

City’s final Premier League fixture is against Fulham on May 25. Guardiola’s side still have work to do to qualify for next season’s Champions League with a whole host of teams still in contention to finish the top five.

Haaland scored his 30th goal of the season against Bournemouth before hurting himself. Marmoush, a January capture from Eintracht Frankfurt, is likely to deputise for City’s star man between now and his return.

The striker will hope to feature for City in the United States this summer when they participate in the Club World Cup. The reigning Premier League champions’ first game in said tournament is on June 18.
